    96 with 198K.

    Replaced cylinder head, gasket, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, and all hoses 3K miles ago. Other than that no problems or other major issues. I also got rid of the factory exhaust manifold and used a factory 2001 2.7 header in its place.
    Just keep up with your regular maint. and use QUALITY parts when doing maint and repairs. Love my truck!!

    Napa/Autozone = $70
    Dealer = $90

    OEM is worth it.

    High miles dont mean much as long as you continue good maintenance. I have 263k miles and I just built a new bumper for it.

    My truck is still a daily driver. Why worry?

    Mine is a '99 with ~170K. I've replaced an a/c compressor and a clutch. The clutch still had a few more miles on it, but I had the money at the time, and knew it needed it, so I had it done.

    I'm an advocate of regular maintenance; the truck has never gone over 3500 miles without an oil change.

    I love this truck and cant see myself replacing it.

    wow, only 183K. I hear ya though. Before this I had a '92 Dakota for 15 years & 300K miles. Said the same thing. It was a good truck and I never had problems (besides rotors and ball joints? don't know what they were thinking there) I finally got sick of looking at it.

    Gave up a '95 GMC Sonoma with 140K mi. that never left me on the side of the road for the '02 Tacoma I just bought last month, 109K mi. on the ticker. Other than a bad UBJ and a couple rattles, she's solid. Looking forward on growing old with her.

    That 83 is almost identical to the 82 my dad bought new. If it had the chrome package it would be identical. He gave it to me still rust free with 80k on it in 1996. I still kick myself for getting rid of it. But as far as Tacoma's are concerned mine has 252k.

    I agree. I've got a 95 with 154k on it. I love it and know it will last forever but I'm starting to need more than 2 seats. Nothing similar exists out there. When I'm forced to replace it I'll be looking at the early '00 4 door models, but I've been told they didn't have a Manual option. :frown

    You'll have to build you're own! Mechanically speaking auto to manual swaps aren't that tough. But on an OBD2 vehicle you have to deal with the computer too. Although I have a STRONG preference to manual transmissions my last 2 Tacoma's (my 96 and my last 05) were automatics. It's not the end of the world. But if my auto tranny goes in my 96 it will get a swap.

    Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
    My sons joke that I'll drive the Tacoma "til the wheels fall off and then Dad will duct tape them back on". 13 years old and 253,000 miles.... not even close yet!
