AGM 24F or AGM Group H6 (48)

Well Almost 5 years in and my Samsclub AGM 24F is getting weak. (OEM laster 34 months)
Toyota Corp bought my replacement for me

It would last longer if i did the ECU Volt flash (can't find just the battery/ Not the $500 $700 Full flash ) i could be wrong..... it would be worth $50 ~$75 maybe (chicago West Suburbs)

Yes i top it off with a charge every now and then, but it doesn't last long.

Well the 24F has been hard to find lately, H6 is everywhere.
I do think the H6 fits with maybe a little trim (1/8 inch wider)

What did people do to get the H6 to fit?
And it looks like a better battery anyways.

Good idea or Bad ?

In for if anyone has used a similar substitute. Tried to pick up a 24F AGM at Costco yesterday and he said he couldn’t find stock at any of my local stores unfortunately

 

Thats what I'm finding out, there hard to get at a good price

 

Group 27F (2nd gen towing pkg) and group 35 (2nd gen base) fit as well. I'm running an Optima Red 35, 720 CCA and 20 lb lighter than stock.

 

I just installed a Duracell 24F AGM from Sam's club on Labor Day. Set up an appointment for the following Saturday morning with my KDMax tuner Vic and he installed the 10.0 tune and adjusted the alternator output to 14.4 volts...so far, no complaints.

 

Does the 27F work with the stock battery tray? I’ve read mixed things. I’d prefer a drop in replacement personally

 

A 2nd Gen with tow package has the correct battery tray for the 27F. However what you are reading is that it will fit without changing it out, but be aware it will overhang the stock battery tray.

 

Understood, thanks! I’ll do some measuring of my stock tray and see how it’s going to hang with a 27F. Sounds like they’re a lot easier to find and I’d like to have the additional capacity.

Is there a cheep way to just get the ECU flashed for a AGM battery Or i need to go back to the lead acid.
My AGM is going fast and needs to be replaced.
My Fiat AGM is on 9 years - Tacoma 4 and dead....

Worked fine in mine. Just a little trim on the tray.

 

Unless you have a VFTuner Pro friend, there is no cheap way to get an ECU tune just for the AGM voltage adjustment. On the cheaper end, maybe you are looking at $300ish, might as well get a full tune up too with the AGM setting.

The other option is to hook your battery up to a battery charger (Battery Tender, Noico, etc.) every so often.

 

I installed a 2 Amp charger and plug my truck in every month or so. Granted this battery is still new, but I usually get 5 to 7 years on my AGM batteries using a charger.

 

Did the charger thing also. still only lasted 4 years. Granted way better than the OEM 2 years 9 months (yes Toyota corp bought my AGM for me)
$300ish is better than the $700 i have read. Better MPG would help offset it some. i am running +1 bigger tires. Just not sure who to go to for it.
