Just don't care for folks that speak with authority, when they don't have any first hand knowledge.

But hay, you corrected my spelling and told me to F myself, so you must be correct. Or just another forum douchebag. I'll let others decide for themselves.

Damn I didn't know I needed popcorn for a battery thread! Here's a better question I suppose, how many years have any of you gotten out of an AGM battery? I have always gotten 5-7 years out of my normal batteries so I'm just curious to see if anyone has gotten 10+ years from an AGM. I have VFtuner so I can change the voltage if my research tells me I need to.

Main reason I went agm is to run my fridge. Could get about a day on the stock battery, can go 2-3 now on a 27f agm

I got 11 out of my last Odyssey, still use that battery for bench testing stuff in the garage 2 years later.

Just put in a AMG and don't look back if you plan on keeping the truck. I did 3 years ago, over the life of the battery .. what $5 to $7 a year.. are you really going to worry about that.
    24F
under $200 at Autozone. Same battery at sams club was $160

    Just so you know
    Features
    • Absorbed Glass Mat Technology
    • Twenty times more vibration resistance than conventional batteries
    • Two times the cycle life of conventional batteries
    • Faster recharging and more power for electronics
    • Seventy percent more resiliant to battery failure from severe deep discharge compared to conventional batteries

You're right, I don't know anything about batteries or why you'd want to run an AGM, or running accessories on one. Here's my totally stock battery setup that I didn't do a ton of research on before setting up. Yes, an AGM will be fine on a totally stock setup, but also pointless if you're not going to take advantage of the benefits of the extra capacity and discharge capabilities. By charging to 14.8v you're only helping the battery do its thing properly, but you're probably running a bone stock truck and not putting any extra load on the system

me too on my first one. On a 2nd odyssey I got 9 years. Also got over 8 years out of a DEKA. Both of these brands are US made.

I expect to get less out of my walmart AGM, will see. I dont trust the QC of johnson batteries, like I do with enersys or deka.

Been bumping down washboard roads in Baja for a couple of decades. AGM doesnt leak/off-gas like a FLA battery does. Full stop. Yes AGM has a vent so unwad your panties, but look at the white crystals on top of your FLA battery in your daily driver and you’ll know what I mean. Won’t see that fungus on AGMs. Oh, and thicker AGM lead plates = mo bettah! If you just stick to paved roads then buy the cheapest FLA you can find.
Edit: Optima Red works just fine for me! @TWTaco put a tune on mine and now I see 14.3v input.

You guys pose a good argument for the gel cell, but I'm still not convinced it's worth it.

Who is going to thrash a new $50k vehicle on the trails on enough of a regular occurrence to justify the expense of these batteries?

    I make a pretty good living, but I know I won't be.

Maybe I answered my own question:

If you can beat the shit out of a $50 k truck and not worry about damage, then you sure as shit won't ever worry about an extra $50.

    One question:

Can I have your old battery? You most likely can afford to eat the cost of the core exchange.

Go to silver lake sand dunes 4X4 park sometime

so at $50K its not worth 50 bucks extra. you will get that back the first time your OME is dead and you are late for work.
Mine lasted 2 3/4 years and toyota BOUGHT my AMG because it died at a bad time. my weather is the same as yours as im on the other side of the lake

Good points, but that dog won't hunt.

If you can't recognize a failing battery, then being late to work because it failed is on you.

As listed above; a dedicated trail rig or wheeling rig is about the only reason to have a gel cell.

In addition, I ain't buying that you can run your truck fridge 2 extra days on a gel cell. If that is the case, running a gel cell flat is about the worse you can treat them.
