AhsokaTaco - 2021 SR5 DCSB 2.7L 2WD Build Thread

Anytime! I appreciate you taking the time to look. As of now, I don’t have an ig for the truck, just my personal and my fishing ig that has a decent following. I’m still trying to decide if I want to start one for the truck and dedicate the time to it. For now, this thread will be my main way of posting the build and it’s adventures.

 

1-15-2021:

Took off for Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree with the family for the first overnight trip with the tent on the RCI rack. On the way there, I had an idea to mount my old gen 1 WaterPort tank from 2016 to the inside of the rack. Stopped by Home Depot for a couple carriage bolts and it’s up! Not the best, but it’ll do until I get my new WaterPort soon.



Since the campsites are still closed, we did a test run of our setup on my sister in laws parents property in Yucca Valley. The kids had a blast enjoying a fire and running around under the stars in the desert.

 

1-16-2021:

We had a great time at Joshua Tree cooking breakfast, letting the kids running around and climb with their cousins, and hitting the trails.

 

1-17-2021:

Met up with @BajaBornOffRoad to grab my new rock sliders. Can’t wait to install them tomorrow!



And my legacy plates finally showed up after 2 1/2 months.

 

1-18-2021:

Installed the @BajaBornOffRoad rock sliders today. Easy install with the bolts. I love how they sit out just enough to be used as a step to get to the roof.

 

1-21-2021:

Went to Warner’s Muffler in Oceanside this morning to change out my exhaust tip. The cheap on I purchased from them in October was already loosing all its paint so they hooked it up and exchanged it with a better tip!

 

1-26-2021:

Received my rear suspension components from Headstrong Off-road today! Rear Bilstien 5100s extend, and the Headstrong AAL. Now I just have to wait for my appt!



I also received the XBull recovery boards I purchased on Amazon and got them installed on the RCI bed rack. I had to drill new holes on one side to have them sit correctly but I’m happy with the way they turned out. Now to just add a lock so they can’t get taken.

 

1-28-21:

I received my @AL Offroad Products Trailgate in the mail and got it installed. Awesome product I can’t wait to put to use on the trails.



I also attached a bike lock to my recovery boards to help prevent theft.

 

1-29-2021:

Received and installed my grille emblem from @ataco4x4 today.

 

2-3,4-2021:

The family and I got off the grid for the night out in Blair Valley in Anza Borrego. After breakfast the next morning, we got to hike to see the ancient Native American pictographs. It’s always a good time getting out to explore!

 

2-12-2021:

Hit 2k miles today while out cleaning pools in the rain.

 

2-18-2021:

Decided to go watch the sunset and have some dinner and play some uno in the rtt tonight at the beach with the wife and kids.

 

Thanks for the post man! I recently made a purchase on a 2020 4 Cly. SR5 DCSB in October. I had some regrets on not getting the V6 TRD OR (I quit a good paying job and couldn't afford it), but this reinforces my purchasing decision. I feel like I can still do the thing, so to speak.

 

Thanks and congrats on the new truck! That’s when I got mine as well. Yea I know what you mean. This is my second 2.7L and I’ve also had a first gen v6 and I still question my decision. But knowing I won’t be rock crawling and most of the stuff we are doing is fire roads and easier trails just to get camping, I’m happy with the money I saved on the 2.7L. I also just came from owning my grandmas Tahoe that was V8 5.7L so my justification for getting rid of it was getting something more practical for my needs.

 

3-10-2021:

Got my rear extended Bilstien 5100s and HeadStrong progressive AAL installed last night by @Jason TRD OR. Stoked to have the sag from my weight gone and the ride difference is night and day. Feels like the front end is planted on the road again and the wheels aren’t wandering on the freeway. If you’re in SoCal and need work done, make sure you hit Jason up.

Question, I am thinking of going this route too with the 5100s & an AAL. What made you go with the extended rears? And does the AAL support the rear load well?

 

I went with the extended because that’s what Jason recommended. With the stock size, you will be topping out the travel.

 

4-5,6-2021:

On a road trip up to Big Sur for the kids spring break. The first night, we dispersed camped on Figueroa Mountain above Santa Barbara in the Los Padres National Forest. Picked a perfect spot to set up for the night right before dark with 360 degree views below us. After some fun around the campsite, the next morning we finished the loop through the mountain on Figueroa Mountain Rd and stopped where we wanted and played in the creek and climbed some boulders. We got to have some fun in the truck as well.



Once we left the mountain, it was Solvang for some Bratwursts for lunch, then onward towards Monterrey. We had to make one quick stop at the Firestone Walker brewery of course. Tomorrow we will be getting to Big Sur!

 

I'm a simple man, i see 2.7 in the title, i sub.... love the build so far
