4-7,8-2021:

We woke up Wednesday morning in Monterey and went and had breakfast and walked around downtown near the bay. I had to make a stop at my favorite all time brewery, Alvarado Street.



We then headed to Big Sur for the final 2 days of our trip. We took in all the beauty our state has to offer driving down the 1 highway from Monterey to Big Sur. We were also finally able to stop to see the McWay falls. Camping in Big Sur was beautiful and we can’t wait to be up this way again!

 

4-25-2021:

Nothing special, just by daily routine of taking the truck surfing at my home spot of Ponto in Carlsbad.

 

4-29-2021:

Went to the only dirt road in Carlsbad after dropping the kids off at school for some pictures.



Hit 4K miles.



Went surfing at Ponto.

 

5-5,6-2021:

Took my son up to Big Bear after school for a father / son camping trip. We went up the 38 and did the Thomas Hunting Grounds trail up to the yellow post campsite. In the morning, we finished the trail and did 1N45 (Seven Oaks Rd) before heading home. We got to see a brown bear and a bobcat on the trail. Nothing like spending quality time with my son out in nature!

 

Love this thread. Just read through all of it. I also have a Prerunner and like to get out. Have you had to recover yourself yet? I may do a father/son trip soon. Need to get out.

I'm always pondering if I should trade mine in for a 4x4. But I love having a paid off truck and it's been good to us. May the force be with you.

 

Thanks for checking out the build! I really appreciate it. I love my truck. Yea at times I feel like I’d want a 4x4 but for what I do, this is just perfect. Just usually going to the beach or doing fire roads in the mountains to get to campsites. I haven’t had to do a recovery yet! We’ll see when that happens.

 

My traction boards got me out of some deep Anza Borrego loose sand recently. And I was hooked up to my trailer too. Dug out sand, aired down, placed boards and BAM. couldn't believe it worked.

 

Glad you got out easy! I usually air down to 15-18 anyways for the desert. I had a blast in Blair Valley. I need to get back out there one more time before it gets too hot.

 

I usually do too but I was on the pavement and then Google maps told me to make a left down this dirt road and it quickly became deep sand. It wasn't even really a trail. We were looking for Arroyo Salado camping area. I think it's already too hot!

 

5-9-2021:

After a few hiccups with trying to get the Cali Raised oem style switch spliced to the wiring harness, I finally got the Desert Armor ditch lights mounted and running on the truck. The lights seem good enough for a knock off cheap Chinese part. But I’m disappointed with the rust already starting on the hardware after one car wash. I am actually pretty disappointed with Desert Armor and their customer service and their continuation to not be willing to help me with multiple issues. Still waiting 3 months now for my rtt from them and I’ll just be selling it once it comes. I don’t want their branding on my truck. I like the style of these ditch lights though. But I got taught the “you get what you pay for” lesson.

 

5-12-2021:

Got the Cali Raised 40” light bar on top up the Prinsu. Added the Lamin-x to make it yellow to match the rest of my lights. I also added the OEM style switch so it looks clean and it belongs with the truck. Spent some time cleaning up the wires in the engine bay and zip tying everything down. Now I’m ready to go for some night trailing!

5-17-2021:

A buddy from Instagram sent me some old leds he was done with for the headlights. The plug & play style makes it so easy to install. The headlights are so much brighter now! Can’t wait until I get my Alpha Rex lights and add these leds to them.

 

Love the build! Ever think about going with 285s tire? I'm torn between 265 or 285 on my next tire for my 2.7 SR.

 

Thanks! Yea I regret getting 265s. Next I’m going 285 mts for sure.

 

6-2-2021:

Well after 8 months of owning my truck and tons of mods and trips and memories in that short span, she gone! I got a great offer I couldn’t refuse and I get to start over. I had a blast building this truck and the memories we created in it in the short time we had it. Now we have a 2021 4Runner on order and then the fun begins with that one!

Any regrets on the sale? So many mods for such a short period of time. Truck looked great.

 

Thanks! I do miss it from time to time. But I haven’t regretted selling it. I’m looking forward to the future. Just picked up a rad 1997 4Runner yesterday for the mean time.
