Oh, be careful, the high beams go with them. They're on the same screw, not separate.

I’m two evenings into my new HID bulb swap and I’m still getting flashed. I haven’t had a wall to adjust to so I’ve been counting the cog notches as I turn it. First night, 20 ticks, still got flashed. I did another 30 tonight. It’s counterclockwise down correct? For those who have had to make this adjustment how much turning did you do? I don’t expect the same cog notch reply, just did it seem like you had a lot of turning to do? I do have a 2” lift.

I never got a reply so I managed to figure this out on my own.
When turning counterclockwise for down, turn the screwdriver counterclockwise, not the cog.
    Cog counterclockwise= beam up
    Cog clockwise= beam up
This is really for those trying to do this without a wall. After my fails without a wall, I strongly recommend you find one.

@crashnburn80 the headlight aiming procedure and how-to here would be really helpful for the community to incorporate into your excellent sticky on headlights.

Good idea. I actually have it in some other threads but didn’t include it in the 3rd Gen thread. I’ll be sure to add it there as a helpful resource.

It's actually a federal motor vehicle regulation. No more horizontal adjustments. Not needed with modern lights with a wide dispersal pattern of light. Either BMW or VW were forced into a recall for not capping the horizontal adjustment on their lights.

I pointed up HIGHER my 3rd Gen Taco headlights and upgraded to some cheaper but good and brighter but bad instructions Amazon LEDs. The LEDs are sort of universal and the plugs can snap or lock in even if polarity is reversed--the instructions in the box didn't mention this and they don't work with reversed polarity. THE ADJUSTERS on mine were 8MM bolt heads with geared wheels though you could turn the geared wheels with your fingers also. Easiest to move the windshield wiper solution out of the way; 2 ten mm head bolts or actually screws. HOWEVER, ON MINE CLOCKWISE LOWERED, COUNTER CLOCKWISE RAISED AND IT TOOK MORE TURNS TO MOVE THEM SIGNIFICANTLY THAN OTHER POSTS CLAIMED. i raised the passenger side headlights more than the driver side to not get flashed all the time/to not piss off oncoming traffic. BUT, STOCK LOW BEAMS WERE POINTED TOO LOW AND NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. My LEDs came with DRIVERS(they are not ballasts) that get HOT so they should be put somewhere away from wires wire looms or engine or exhaust heat or window washer fluid bottle.

You can just use a long philips screwdriver for adjustments. It goes down the channel that leads to the toothed wheel you mentioned, where the end of the screwdriver meshes with the wheel like a set of gears to turn the adjuster. In this case, the screwdriver turns the opposite way the adjuster does, so to turn the adjuster screw counter clockwise, you would rotate the screwdriver clockwise.

Thanks but was doing it at night so I could see how much up or down they were moving and already done and didn't or couldn't see the phillips option.

Just adjusted my headlights after the king suspension and deaver pack install. Nose was pointing down a little with some rake due to the deaver pack. Counter clockwise was up for me, clockwise was down.

SCREWDRIVER, SCREWDRIVER, SCREWDRIVER!!! The entire purpose of those 2 little fins above the cog is to hold the Philips screwdriver in place so you can adjust without ever touching the 8mm or 10mm hex bolt head. This means you don't need to fight with wires and the washer fluid removal like others have posted. With the screwdriver method this entire job will take 2 minutes after you pop your hood 7.6m (25ft) away from a wall.

I’m glad I found this thread. I feel like my lights are a little low. I think it’s time to raise them just a hair.
