I have enough $$ to spend to get this right now, but this seems like a dumb first mod to put on a stock DCLB.
    What do you all think?

I'd personally get a rear locker first, but I wouldn't say it is a dumb first mod.

You need an on-board compressor to use this, right?

Correct! You need an on-board air compressor like this one: IMG_1273_a3bc3d3f65ac3e3da6ef8f13af068e7477206a40.jpg

If you're EVER going to get a front locker, might as well get it at the best price possible. It's not like they're gonna be cheaper when you're ready.

BTW - I highly recommend the ARB compressor, I used mine nearly every week to inflate a ball, a golf cart tire, a pool toy, etc. Last Feb. I had a sidewall cut on one of my brand new MTRs that would lose air when that side of the tire contacted the ground. I first noticed the it about 200 miles from home when the low pressure air light came on.

Thanks to my ARB on board air system, I aired up the tire right on the side of the road and kept rolling. Needless to say, the problem got worse and I had to stop about every 10 minutes to air up the tire. Thankfully, the compressor saw me through otherwise I would not have made it home without a Tow truck. True Story! I would get the compressor first then the front differential.

Replaces the stock carrier, so anything that has fitment with the stock carrier should work here as well. Pretty sure you can regear under those stipulations...

    Great Price! :)

Great compressor! Nice install even though I wouldn't like the racket from the compressor in the cab. I have a yellow top in that location. :) Be sure to get a $5 fitting and $2.50 quick disconn from Home Depot so that you will be able to use it for tires. I just got back from a 2 week trip to Moab and would have been hosed when I found myself with no spare (snapped off truck) and I put a 4" gash in my sidewall. After stuffing the hole with 50 plugs, a tube of shoo goo, a tube of liquid nails, couple of rolls of different kinds of tape and even my girlfriends sole to her shoes!!, I was able to use this compressor every three minutes for 13 hours to get off the trail. Without this compressor I would be known as the corpse formerly known as HBMurphy! lol

Well kinda. This unit will work with 3.73 gears and lower gear ratios. For example this would not work for 4.56s. That application calls for a RD 111. Not everyone needs 4.56s. :)

No, unfortunately I left the compressor installed when I sold my truck.

Great story! Yeah, sound just like my story only worse. I am glad you made it home okay. Thank goodness for being prepared right? My father used to say, "better to have it and not need it, than need it any not have it." That kind of thinking has got me out of a lot of sticky situations and helped many people along the way...

For those of you concerned about the re-gear issue, nitro makes thick-cut 4.56 gears which require this locker. No need for the rd111 which is for 3.91 and up. This will work

Between the freezer and canned goods we had at least 6 days worth of food, 7 gallons of filtered water, 20 extra gallons of fuel and a roof top tent. We would had a couple of days before I would start to take strips similar to the ones from my girlfriend's shoe soles - except these would be from her ass! :)

Speaking of nice asses... Hey Brandy - good call. You have 3.73s in your still right?

I was about to say...we were planning on an RD121 with my 4.56 regear until I decided not to bother with a front locker.

Limited ratios may be an issue, however, that's a good consideration. Thanks Paul.
