Yeah it’ll do fine, I’ve used it for that. It’s got plenty of PSI / CFM / Battery power. I’ve been using the 8 or 12 ah battery

Would the AC oulet in the truck be good enough to charge the batteries?

It will work. It will take some time. Recommend beginning with a full battery charge.

I have the same Makita compressor, the outlet in the bed will not power it.

They actually make a 12v battery charger. I’d go that route.. or just make sure they are charged at home before you leave.

If you are going out for a day, I wouldn’t anticipate needing more than a battery worth of charge. Unless you are airing up a fleet of trucks.. or airing up and down 20 times.

I run a Husky brand portable compressor off my bed inverter to air up/down. Not elegant or terribly compact, but it works. Plus its portable, and it’s cheap enough that I won’t cry if it breaks. Whatever you go with, like others said, check the amp draw to make sure the inverter can handle it.

Why make this difficult? Get a compressor designed for 12V and be done with it.

I got this from Harbor Freight. It works great with the 400w plug.

That little guy only draws 2.6 amps at 120v- less than 400 Watts, it’ll work when your inverter is running at 400 watts.
