Air Compressor Issue

Got a CH 5HP 20 gallon compressor that will, most of the time, build pressure to around 150psi and when I drop the pressure on it, it, as it should, turns on then shuts down at around 80psi. If I unplug it and let it sit, I can turn it back on and it will pressure back up but not always back to 150psi. Should I replace the internal breaker?

 

sounds more like a pressure switch.

 

My first thought as well. If the breaker were bad you'd be resetting it frequently.

 

On my 2nd CH 60 gallon upright, 3.2 HP, (the first one lasted 25 years with no issues) and the 2nd one is about 4-5 years old and no issues at all when turning it on or off and maintaining the same pressure..

 

Got it figured out a while back. Dirty air filter. Cleaned it and works fine since.

 

FWIW, I have a 30gal Craftsman tank, and I've noticed that it will "fill up" to different PSI levels depending on the weather, the temperature, the relative humidity, etc.
