First hot day yesterday in a brand new Tacoma (2 weeks plus). Had the ac on full blast, recirc, and I never had to come down from that on the trip home. Didn't seem like it was cooling the cabin like you'd expect. Problem, or am I missing something? Haven't even opened the hood, much less disconnected the battery.

I would get it checked out. Something is wrong if you had to run full blast all the time. My 2012 will freeze you out at medium speed and recirculate mode and This is in South Carolina.

Wow! I had two Taco’s that did this very thing and could not figure out why. This seems to make sense! Each time was after the battery was disconnected to work being done on it. It would not work when driving on interstate, but kicked in after awhile driving and only when stopped or driving slower. Has worked fine ever since on both trucks.

You left off the part of the quote that makes it clear that I hadn't disconnected the battery. That was my point. My question was is there any way my experience can be right that I wouldn't have to lower it from full blast over an extended drive. Toyota Service Department can fix it if it needs to be fixed, but I can open it and confirm that there is an AC compressor and engine, if you like. I checked the manual and it said to put it on Max AC. There is no Max AC on the dials. The digital temp can go all the way to Low, the fans can go full blast, and I can turn on AC and recirculation. Was wondering if I could possibly be missing something before I go to the dealer.

Also, just realized this is a second generation thread. When I say new, I mean 2021 couple of weeks from the dealer new.

Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to be snarky. Now that I have more info (2021 truck) I can offer no help lol. I've never worked on the AC in a 3rd gen.

    Good luck.

    I drive a Miata.

If I were you, I'd take full advantage of that nice manufacturer's warranty and get it checked.

I live in Texas. If the truck has been baking in a parking lot all day, 95-100° outside, probably >130° in the car, the AC can get the cabin temperature to a comfortable point in about 10-15 minutes. That's my benchmark, that during the summer I will have the blower on max for the first 10 minutes of my drive, then it starts getting to the point where I can dial it back.

If your car isn't noticeably cooler after running the AC for 10 minutes, visit your dealer.

It's noticeably cooler, but I'm not getting so cold that I needed to turn it down. Yesterday was a much cooler day and I did need to turn it down. I'll wait for another hot one before taking it in. For all other cars I've owned I would be turning down the air by at least the 10-15 minute mark.
