    Hi all,

I have a 2011 TRD Sport Double Cab. My air condition seems to want to take a break every now and then. It’ll work fine for periods of time (nice cold air) then just stop working for a few days/weeks, then start working again.

Any of you have similar issues? Is there anything I can/should check myself or is this something that requires a trip to a service department? Help/guidance will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    N

Is the AC Compressor not working or is it just the air blower in the ventilation system not blowing. There is a huge difference.

From the intermittent failure I would guess that the Blower Connector and Resistor more so than the AC System.

My A/C took a dump this summer. Wouldn't be so bad but my passenger window stopped working too. Gets a bit toasty at times, but I just don't want to spend the money on A/C right now. I'd rather sweat than be broke.

The AC on my 2013 crapped out this spring. There was a pinhole in one of the hoses so all the coolant leaked out. New hose and charge and was good to go!

Thank you all for the responses. I had to get the annual inspection done and while at the service center I had them recharge the coolant $150 but it has dye which will indicate any leaks. They promised me the $150 put toward fixing the leak if one exists.

For now I have cold air...the wife will be ok with riding in the truck.

M a/c died last year. Noticed it was getting warmer and oily liquid was coming out of the drain pipe. The it never got cold. Took it to a a/c shop and $2,000 later, it was the the evaporator that was leaking and they said it was common amongst Tacomas. When I went to pick up my truck, another customer just drove in and said his a/c isn't cold anymore.

My AC compressor doesn’t kick on. Is there a mechanism to keep that from happening if the coolant is too low, or is it just a compressor problem? The A/C button lights up like normal.

There is also a simple relay that can take a dump. Google it

Yes, there's a low-pressure sensor which can prevent the clutch engaging if charge is insufficient. I would have thought your system would indicated a fault if that were the case though (blinking light).

yeah, I thought it would blink if it was the relay or pressure not causing it to kick on. As it is, the light is on like normal but it does not kick on.

The AC light will blink only.... if the compressor rpm does not match the engine rpm. OR lol, if the sensor for compressor rpm took a dump.

OK. I thought it just blinked it the circuit was not completed.
But that does confuse me. The compressor didn’t kick on, so I would think the rpm wouldn’t match???

I think it’s gonna be a hot summer

Correct, if the compressor didn't kick in, the rpms wouldn't match so blinky light.
Next step, connect a gauge manifold. Any pressure at all?

yeah, but I got a continuous light, which is what I don’t understand.
I don’t have a pressure gauge, so that will be my next step
