Has anyone had any issues with their a/c just sounding like it's struggling and not getting cold? I took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with the a/c so im at a loss for fixing it..

Not normal. Mine will be ice cold after sitting in 100+ degree sun within the first 10 minutes. It will bring the cab down to tolerable within the first 2-5 minutes.

Is it not blowing cold, or is it not blowing?

When was the last time you changed your cab filter

    Oh look, another mod....
Yeah, that's not normal. Mine will get ice cold too after sitting in 100+ degree weather (Gotta love Texas). It only takes my truck 1 - 3 minutes though. I think that's because my truck is better than ^^^ his. It's a TRD OffRoad, not one of those lame ass "sport" models.

It blows air but never gets cold. They did the inspection of the filter not long ago for the regular maintenance interval

Sounds like your coolant needs recharged. Surprised the dealer didn't try to sell you that.

There is a very involved TSB to add a secondary fan to help with this condition. Mine doesn't get very cold, even up here in WA, but I don't mind it.

Attached is the TSB. If it were my Taco, I would not want the dealer techs doing deep dive mods like that.

I mean turn it on for 10 minutes at max AC lowest temp. Stick an instant-read thermometer in the vent air and see what it reads. I can't imagine the dealer arguing with you when it's blowing cabin temp air while turned on. Either it's not normal or your expectations are too high for the modern vehicle refrigerants.

Not normal at all. Can you look under the hood with it running and see if the AC clutch is short cycling?

Takes all of five minutes to eyeball it yourself. I'd check it for peace of mind.

Pretty confident 90% of the "inspection checklist" is done standing at the computer closing the ticket out.

Edited to add....they always ticked the "filter checked" box on my services too...

Mine spits ice cubes so I’d say that yours is not working to it maximize potential, it may however be within design parameters and that’s why your dealership was no help. I’d get a second opinion if I were you.

Aight. Aircon blow-off. We can see who gets colder faster while debating which brewery in town is best.

Turning Point will win that argument.

I've got two guys looking and they said the parts are moving like they should and we tried to top it off with AC PRO but the nozzle for the can won't go onto the low point. Is there a special brand that goes for tacomas?

You need an ac guy or at least someone with proper gauges and knowledge.

I think that they all use the same Schrader valve. At least I've never heard of a different valve. At this point, if the dealer says there is nothing wrong, I'd ask around and find a good independent Radiator/AC shop.

My 2019 SR5 has great heat/AC, but then again so did both of my Tundras and all of the other Toyotas I've owned over the past 20 years.

    85. The nozzle wouldn't seat completely but we were able to send some through, enough to get the ac working again so now I'm thinking there's a leak somewhere

If it’s blowing air and it’s not cold you don’t have any refrigerant. “Topping it off” is a bandaid. It’s a sealed system. Find and fix the leak and then charge it to the proper level.

There’s a reason the valves aren’t compatible. They’re trying to stop you from adding the wrong refrigerant and possibly ruining sys/orings etc. imo, take it to a shop.

Good pick up. I seem to remember that there's a no refrigerant out to replace R-134, which replaced R-12. I think it was R-12, but I haven't played with auto AC in a long time.

Looks like R134A was used 2016 and 2017, with R1234yf for everything after.
