    Yeah those ones that run off the accessory plugs in the cab or the outlets in the bed are really only meant for 'emergencies' like you have one tire that's lost air and needs to be filled up. Using those to fill up 4 tires after a trail run will definitely overwork them and drain the hell out of your truck's battery (plus those compressors are agonizingly slow).

    Using the battery terminals allows you to run it off the battery with the truck running so you don't risk draining the battery and the compressors are heavier duty, faster and can handle higher output. They are more expensive but they are designed to be used regularly and last a long time.
