I missed it by 8 points this year, but I wasn't motivated at all. Currently awaiting permanent retirement orders, so it didn't matter if I made it or not.

Wanted to do a career but got hurt. 2 years of severe, chronic back pain that was diagnosed incorrectly, leading to the end of my short career. tried every possible treatment option with no joy. So it's bittersweet I guess. no more Air Force, but I get to finish my degree much faster, and get a decent check every month for life. just have to deal with the back pain for life.

I am headed to Kentucky where the boss lady is currently a student with the Air Force NECP Program. Ill be going to UK to finish my degree in Electrical engineering. We will be married before the boss lady graduates and puts Lt on, then who knows where they send us.

Ya, the back extends up a little further so we can rest our heads when nap time comes around, haha.

20 damn years ago. My arms still hurt from getting those stripes tacked on, and I've been retired for 4!

Most units aren't allowed to run the gauntlet anymore... when we did promotion down range, they had to make it a point to tell everyone that it is meant to be a small, light hit for cerimonial purposes, and it's not meant to hurt people...

I am not necessary completely upset that I am being medically retired right now.. the Air Force is in a weird "walking on egg shells" phase at the moment

It was worse in the TS/SCI world when I retired in 2011. Post Wikileaks and Snowden, the Secret Squirrel world is eating itself alive from the inside. No one trusts anyone else, paranoia and fear are running rampant. All my friends who went contractor are jumping ship. Can't say I blame them.

That is the world I am in. To the naked eye, it has gotten better, but behind the scenes it is significantly worse. Programs shutting down, three letter orginazations pulling relationships, no one working together anymore.

Makes the job a million times harder and causes duplication of effort of multiple fronts. It has become beyond rediculous.

    I'm a old retired guy, E-7 in 1997 after 21 years.

Just wanted to share this. As AFSC's come and go, When I got promoted to E-6 I was the ONLY one in that cycle to get promoted. There were only SIX 32132P testing for E-6. Old F-4C/D WCS radar tech. Not even the F-4E/G. 32132Q WCS, which was already getting old.

So there you go, I was the highest/lowest promoted score and the cutoff.

My son made E-6 in the Navy as a EF (weapons tech/operator) on subs 5.5 years and a day since he enlisted. Better than me by many years!

My AFSC was Fire Control Tech. By happenstance his was Fire Control Tech too, odd.

Wait, it wasn't always a duplication of effort? This mythical time which you speak of, were there unicorns, dragons, and dinosaurs? And did people actually do their job? Say it ain't so! -Because I won't believe you anyways. Hahaha
