I started a case on toyota's engagement system. I began this in Sept 2023 and it is still ongoing--we received notice & I promptly started uploading expenses for the repairs done in 2022. The issue was the secondary air injection pump & air switching valve. At the time we were in supply chain unavailability and it wasn't until Fall, we finally had repaired (with a big rental vehicle bill).

Our current situation was at no time did their customer service people refer to a date of the service bulletin other than what we stated. With getting delays with the run around, I resorted to email three executives at corporate. Finally, a call came in a couple of weeks ago. Final word given was that reimbursement did not meet criteria because the service bulletin was sent to us in 2020 and that repairs had to be done at a dealership.

I just saw a thread and now can't trace back to it. Someone commented in 2023 that they just repaired and asked when the latest service bulletin went out. Can someone help me, please and thank you.

I don’t get it. Are you talking about the secondary air pump going bad and needing replacement?

the car industry works like this.
    -warranty
    -warranty extensions
    -recalls

    recalls are NHTSB safety concerns.
Warranty extensions (few) happen as a result of massive class action lawsuits.

TSB repairs under warranty only happen when a customer brings their vehicle in while it is under warranty complaining of behavior matching the TSB.

which never happens because the catalog of TSBs is not shared with the public.

meaning a person can have a problematic part on their vehicle, applicable TSB, and not even know about it.

for example, my windshield cowl. TSB. Previous owner never did it.

Ideally, TSBs would be shared with the public. Right to repair wants this. It probably will not happen.
Or, more realistically, buy the day pass to read up on TSBs. Which at this point given time, miles, and when these trucks were released, would still not be covered.

Toyota probably would not goodwill the repair. Goodwill is done when a car is still young, with original owner who goes to dealer for service and bought other vehicles from them. Which doesn’t happen.

you can email as many executives and engagements as you want that’s not going to have a result. Part of owning a used car and why warranties exist.

only thing you might fall under is federal emissions 8/80 warranty.

I don’t know how many TSBs exist for the 2nd gen. Or if Toyota does them based on VIN.
That’s what other companies do. They’re based on VIN. If they know something happened to your VIN, then it only populates under that VIN. Required to pull them up.
Or headquarters will delete the TSB upon getting word from the dealer it has been done and therefore no longer applicable.

older simpler cars may have less TSBs. Let’s say 20 of potentially applicable ones rather than 40 due to being less complicated and less parts, such as much fewer control modules.
