When I got my wheel/tire package, I was more concerned with looks/style. Now after having it for a while, I'm to the point where I'm looking to go offroad with it. I've had previous tacos, and never had rims bigger than 16's, this is when I was in colorado.
I'm in Florida now, and not much real off-road places, other than sand. Deep sand, I now have 20's, with 35x13.5 SST Pro's. Anybody on here aired down using 20" wheels? What did you go down to???

    Oh look, another mod....
If you have 20" wheels, do what those wheels were made to do: Look pretty on the concrete/asphalt roads. Keep that thin side wall-mall crawling machine of yours off the sand.

    It has no business there.

You aren't going to be able to air down 20's enough to do any good and you will likely pop the bead trying.

You have just as much sidewall as a limited from the factory. I say air down to about 20 and see how it does. You won’t pop a bead in sand. I wouldn’t rock crawl with it.

You could definitely air down to about 20 psi, just be careful not to damage the rims off-road.

Good luck but width is also working against you.
With my stock 16's I air down to 12-15 psi with confidence. 20 ish but be careful! No logs or rocks.

Yeah, on my white one I had 285's on the stock wheels, and would go down to 15, never had an issue. Thinking I might get some 17 SCS blems and sell what I have now...

Good discussion over here on the Jeep Garage. If the internet is to be believed, the two things you should be concerned with is bending the wheel on hard surfaces (not a factor if you are in the sand and air back up before you get back on the hard stuff) and there not being much sidewall to protect the wheel when aired down.

Test it out in the soft stuff at something conservative like 20 - 25 psi and stay out of the sugar sand and watch for the hard stuff. If you hit some hard pack between the sand slow it way down so you're not putting too much load on the tires (risking bending the wheels) from the load of the terrain. You should be fine - just expect your TPMS lights to stay on until you air back up and FOR SURE air up before you hit the asphalt.

    My $.02.

Get yourself some cheap '16 or '17 steel rims, and a good set of Off Road tires. I love my A/T Duratracs, but in this case I'd get a serious set of M/T's. (No need for sensors, if your just using them to play off road with)

That's what I would do after slapping myself silly for getting 20" rims.... :jpow:
