I have a 2008 TRD OR DC 80k miles, I a few weeks ago my pass airbag indicator stated off when I had a passenger, and my dash airbag light would come on. Read some on the forum and tried disconnecting battery, etc which would turn fix the problem then come back on later on in day. I figured it maybe the pass seat sensor needed to be recalibrated. So I took it to dealer and they said they recalibrated and light went off but during test drive it came back on....now they are telling me that the airbag ECU is bad and needs to be replaced...

The dealer said it would be $350 to fix, Since I am out of my warranty, my question is I found the ecus on ebay, for $80 is that something I can just plug and play or will it need to be programed at the dealer, also where is the airbag Ecu located?

any other help/ advise would be great.

Disconnecting the battery will not help. As long as their is any problem in the airbag system the light will automatically come on and the airbags WILL NOT WORK. If it says off but someone is in the seat then the sensor may be bad or a bad module. It sounds more like a seat sensor going bad from what i know so far. If the module was bad the light would most likely not go off when you calibrate or clear the codes. But also if the codes will not hold and battery voltage and grounds to the module are good the module probably is bad. What was the code and description ? Can you be more specific? Was the passenger buckled at the time of the issue? It's not making sense cause it's kinda going in two different directions.

Be cautious about buying used modules. If it has been wrecked it's typically bad, their pretty sensitive. Part numbers must match and if they are calibrating the seats then that will most likely have to be done too if the module is replaced.

WARNING:AIRBAG WORK IS ILL ADVISED AND DANGEROUS IF YOUR ARE INEXPERIENCED.

Just to give you an idea how sensitive they are my wife rear ended someone the other day at a pretty slow speed in her 07 civic. It triggered both portions of the pre-tensioner on the drivers seat belt since it was buckled at the time ,f'd the module up and im still not sure if the crash sensor is bad cause the module is not scannable now. But yet their is absolutely no body damage to the vehicle. That's too sensitive. if any airbags are deployed or a seat belt tensioner is triggered then the module is usually shot. Thats why you have to be cautious about used air bag components.

I bought the truck used with the pass seat belt locked up, I switched it out and it was fine... No lights on. I first noticed the pass airbag off light and airbag light on 15 min after i got a check engine light scanned at auto zone... I hand no one in passenger seat.....ever since then it's been off and on until recently it mainly just stays on..... I took it to toyota cause i thought the seats just needed to be recalibrated ....:toyota recalibrated seats light went off but came back on during test drive.....i currently don't have the codes the Dealer read of their computer, he just told me the codes for the recalibration were not holding due to the airbag ecu being bad

The airbag ecu I found on eBay is warrantied for 120 days the model numbers match except for last 4 does it have to be the excat model number?

I found an ECU, replaced it and still had light on due to a shorted out pass sensor(got wet). I Replaced that sensor as well which fixed my airbag light issue.

    Thanks for the help
