Airbag light on after rear glass replacement.

I had to replace my rear window in my '11 reg cab. This was a home service call, and right in the middle of the job, with all doors open, a huge pop up shower went by. It soaked most of my seat, some carpet, and soaked both doors...even had some standing water in the door pouches.

This morning, the entire interior of the truck was completely fogged and moist. I started the truck to run the heater and opened all the windows, and noticed my airbag light was now on. I called the company, and they advised to do just that, and I did, but the light is still on.

I seriously doubt Ill get any further recourse from them, but does anybody have any experience in troubleshooting this? Are the airbags controlled by the primary ECU, should I get a code from it?

I had an issue with my airbags after I swapped the bench seat in my regular cab. No codes show up with a cheapo little reader. I had to get a USB/OBD cable and installed OBDlink app on my phone. There is an additional $10 you can pay in the app for SRS code reading abilities. I then connected the USB/OBD cable to my phone and truck, booted up the app and was able to read and reset the airbag code. All said about $40 to fix something that took me less than 5 minutes . Maybe someone near you has a fancy scanner you can borrow.

From what I understand if there is an issue with the airbags, none will fire in the event of an accident.

 

I dont mind spending 40 bucks at all, but will say I am not familiar with the equipment/software you speak of. So if your saying I can read the SRS computer and clear codes, can I ask you to be more specific? I would actually prefer a Bluetooth solution too, even if it cost a bit more. The Toyota stealership want $150 just to do the SRS scan.

This is the product that I used. It has since gone up to $40. The company also makes a Bluetooth module, here for $100. They make another one for less, but it isn't compatible with iOS stuff. There are also other companies that make Bluetooth modules for less, but I do not know how compatible they are with the app I used.

I then installed the OBDLink app on my Android phone. There is also a version for apple products. In the app, there is a basic reader that you can use to read check engine codes. You can also purchase more software within the app to read other codes for specific vehicles (SRS codes etc.) So you just plug in your 2011 Tacoma 2.7 5 speed and it will come up with all the additional software you can buy.

Then I grabbed a USB adaptor to plug into my phone and the OBD cable (If you get the Bluetooth module you would instead use the Bluetooth settings on your phone or laptop to connect) and the software will see your truck and be able to view and reset codes.

Give this procedure a shot...might help you narrow things down.

 

Who did the replacement? They have insurance for when things like this happen.

I unfortunately have experience with that as I had a window replacement go terribly wrong..
