Hey everyone, my airbag light stayed on today while I was driving around. Stopped by pep boys to see if they could pull a code, but was told I need to bring it to Toyota for airbag lights. Not being open today, I used a wire and jumped the obd ii port like I read online. It returned a 32. Did some digging and I came across it having something to do with the passenger side seat sensor. Had a friend sit shotgun while I drove around the parking lot and noticed the passenger airbag light read off instead of on. Can anybody guide me in how to further troubleshoot it and what to fix/replace? Thanks!

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
There is a recall called the clock spring recall that is related to the steering wheel air bag. I'd research that for starters.

You do any stereo work or have the seat out recently? Look under the seat at the connectors to see if there is anything not pushed in all the way. Maybe tools or random crap is sitting on the wiring causing a short?

I thought that's what it might be at first and was about to go ahead and order a new one, but I read it should have thrown a code like 51 or 52. My horn still works as well; haven't gotten on a stretch of road long enough to try the cruise control. I also checked Toyota's website and my vin doesn't have a recall for the clock spring.

I did a little sub install a while back, but none of the wires are anywhere near the connectors under the seat and I did the install months ago. I'll check them anyways tomorrow though. Maybe someone kicked them when they got in the back? There should only be two air bag plugs under the passenger right?

I'd like to try to rule out any simpler causes before I take apart my steering wheel and air bag lol if the plugs don't do the trick I might have to take it in to Toyota. Thanks for the help so far guys.

The dealer may be able to recalibrate the passenger seat sensor if it isn't damaged.

Spiral cable, recall, free fix, go to dealership. Nothing to do with wiring for NAV, amps, subs, etc. I ripped all the OEM NAV and multimedia media stuff out first day I bought mine. I got recall letter about 3-4 years after I bout it. Paid no attention to it. First light that came on was airbag light, ignored it for couple months... Then all he'll broke loose, lights on dash lite up like pinball machine! Took it in next day for recall, everything perfect again. :)

I'd go to dealership and call Toyota and complain, complain, complain... Before spending $$$

OP: This is from the service manual:

Just from the code it doesn't involve the spiral cable.

Here is a link to the troubleshooting:

Many Toyota dealerships will do a free code check for you. Especially if you a polite and don't mind waiting. Once you have the exact code, you can either Google the possible solution or then approve Toyota to fix it. As for the guy up there that says complain complain complain....yeah, that route eventually works, but then they may or may not get to your vehicle today. May or may not have parts in stock. Don'the go in screaming recall, especially if you may have possibly been the cause of the issue. Some Toyota technicians are like ninja detectives. They can sniff out people trying to get free work and those that want to actually do right and get their vehicle fixed.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I've been busy with work/class so I haven't been able to crawl around until today. Unplugged the battery and checked the airbag connection under the seat, but no success. I'm going to try to bring it to the dealer this weekend to have an actual code pulled and serviced if necessary/able. I'm not too fond of electrical stuff, especially if it's dealing with the airbags. I'll keep y'all posted.

A did a bunch of troubleshooting too and the only thing they fixed it was recalibrating the passenger occupant weight sensor. Pretty easy to do if you have Techstream, took 3 minutes after 8+ months of that stupid light blinking
