I originally went in for TACP but the AF was doing their "fore shaping" so if I didn't pass in the end then I would be discharged without being allowed to cross train so I am now a F-16 crew chief. Same happened to a buddy of mine when he joined a few years later for PJ. He spent a year training with some PJ's and was doing everything they could but he didn't want to risk it so he is now a C-17 crew chief. Best thing to do from my experience is join with a job you know you can do then cross train later. BTW, as far as PJ, if you pass the sere test it's not really a big deal, don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool to do but compared to the other 2 years spent in training for PJ sere is considered a vacation. And sorry but I'm pretty sure you have to pass the colorblind test for all special forces jobs.

For those interested, a guy I use to work with but is now in a neighboring squadron, he's also my neighbor, started a site that sells shirts for maintainers only. He started this cause he had a license plate that said "FNONERS" but our commander made him get rid of it, along with a back window vinyl that said "NONERS" with a line crossing it out. If interested pick-up a t-shirt or check out their facebook page. Just search FNONERS. For those of you who may be interested. And I apologize if it offends any of you in any way.

Stickers and everything have been around for years. The site unfortunately went down. Used to be pissonnonners.com

Hey everyone, new to tacomaworld and just stumbled upon this thread and thought some of you might be able to help out. I am in DEP for the air force leaving for basic on Nov 13 under the mechanical aptitude area. My line scores were high enough to get any mechanical job in the Air Force but I know that the list of jobs I choose from at basic will only have jobs with tech schools opening up after basic. My question is, what is your job in the Air Force and how do you like it? Also do you know anyone else in other AFSC's under the mechanical area and what do they think of their jobs. I am really interested in special vehicle maintenance, Helicopter maintenance, Electrical power production, or Air Traffic Control (I was actually surprised when I was told that one fell under this aptitude). Thanks for any information you might be able to help me out with.

Lol, I'd like to see a Crew Chief of any jet work on the system that I maintain.:D
I don't think there is a jet in the AF that doesn't rely on a computer system.

Mine doesn't totally. Especially my systems. Good old 135. No major electronics. And I could probably do your systems. Just need a week of training. Not a crew chief though. But remember, crew chiefs are the oil changers at a lube store. No real training needed.
