I have lost interest in mine since I got a KLR 650. Think I am going to sell it after all that wait.

Had a KLR 650 & loved it. Almost killed several times by girls on phones, wildlife, and sugar cane truck debris. Gave it up for 4 wheels. be Careful.

How far should the main intake tube go into the air scoop at the top?

Enough that you feel confident it will be secure.

In other words, I have it all the way down to the crease in the snorkel body

That's where I have mine also. I think by raising the scoop up, more air can get rammed down the tube, but with a risk of it getting blown off at speed, or water entering the tube in heavy rain.

Yeah exactly that's a good spot to have it. My hose clamp is solid on there.

Did you guys not screw the scoop to the snorkel body along with the clamp? That's what I did with mine. It shouldn't come off with the screw through it, unless you're really bushwhacking. I got impatient trying to drill through the clamp.

I cut an inch or two (I can't remember exactly, its been a bit) off the bottom of the intake to lower it and make it more streamlined with the roof. Also drilled threw my clamp to ensure its not going anywhere.

Edit: I remember now, I cut a couple inches off the top of the main tube, not the intake section.

I tried to drill thru the clamp, but my shitty bit took forever to go thru it, so I just said fuck it and just tightened the clamp some more.

Maybe I'll go back later to screw thru just the plastic parts.
