I got a 96 Reg cab with 265/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs. How low do you recommend to air down to for soft sand without worrying about the tire coming off the rim?

Depends on your rim width. I usually go down between 16-20. Some people run lower. Also depends on the weight rating of the tire

I always go down to 15 or 16 when offroading on rocky terrain. Never had any problems. I've heard that 10-12 it's recommended for sand.

It depends on the sand really. If it's fine and dry or thicker and more hard packed. In Glamis, I've been as low as approx. 5-7 PSI.

Just don't try to pull donuts and make hard turns. Don't drive like a tard and you should be fine.

Just a bunch of old crap
20 always gets the job done for me plenty fine in sand and when crawling.

I would air my 255/85/16 on stock wheels down to about 10 to wheel mixed trails. I have only blown a bead when i slid down a hill and hit the side of a hill or something and popped it off. Air pressure is something you have to play with depending on terrain. Try 12 or 15 and go from there.

Yeah I should mention that I do 15psi on rocky terrain with E rated KO2s, I wouldn't be so confident in going that low if I was on a lighter tire

Being the post whore that I am...with a C rated tire 18 lbs. would be the safe choice, with bead blown danger zone 12 lbs. and under.

I air down to 5-10lbs on 33x12.5x15s by 10"wides in a 99' standard cab in snow and sand all the time and never had a problem, both with toyo MTs and Goodyear Duratracs.

snow and sand your not as worried about popping the bead like youd be in the rocks and trail riding.

Carry a 2" ratchet strap and either a high volume air source or starting fluid, WD 40, or similar and something to make fire then start at 15 psi and keep going down until you are able to elongate the tires enough to get traction.
