just making sure you were awake.

Trying to find the link again...It was a solidly build toyota crawler for like 6k

heres one that could be interesting once you find out more details about what it is. Snatch it up, clean it up a bit, and you got an articulating beast.

Thanks man, but 6k is too high. I'm gonna have to find a real piece. Saw a toyota near chattanooga for $2700, lockers front and rear, bed delete, caged, but it's gone now.

    I cannot disagree more.

That steering setup has been used on trucks for many years without issue. Most solid axles are not designed to smash into rocks.

That pic was right after his SAS install, before he painted it.

Many people SAS for good articulation and a much stronger front end. Also, you can get very good articulation out if leaf springs if you set it up right.

If I had the cash for it, I'd be all over it. I'd rather SAS a new truck, and have the reliability and dependability of a new truck if I planned to go to the middle if nowhere. I sure dont trust my old beater as much as I would a new truck.

As for the wheelbase, I'll take a long wheelbase over a short wheelbase any day. Why? Stability, it's that simple. We have skids and sliders for the rest.

To each its own, especially on the wheeling mindset. I just know the 115" WB range is the sweet spot. Hitting your sliders all the time means you are losing wheel contact patch more often and thus have less go juice. I view my my sliders and armor with a "glad they were there" mindset.

And I was commenting on how skinny the tie-rod looks. I'm just used to my huge ass tie-rod.
EDIT: I also just noticed that it is an OTK set up. Rocks definitely wouldn't be as much of an issue unless you just happen to meet the right rock.

I do agree that the newer v6 would be nice to have. My dads about to turn 200k on his and its still running strong. However, I haven't had any problems out of my 4.0 i6. I still wouldn't trust it for long durations away from civilization though haha.

115" wheelbase is to short in my experience. You're giving up a lot of stability, and making your truck more prone to rollovers.

125" to 130" feels a ton more stable to me. Never hitting your skids or sliders is pointless if your truck is on it's roof. :)

I agree that the tie rods do look a bit small. Maybe they are temporary, waiting on upgraded ones? Or maybe this truck was built as a mall crawler, though I doubt that do to it being on TTORA.

It may be a temp tie-rod. If you look, its got a joint in the middle. Lookds like a stock jeep tie-rod.

You can gain stability at the right wheelbase by running full width one-tons

With full body SUV's there seems to be a sweet spot of high enough to clear anything you'd need to straddle with all 4 tires on level ground, and clear your tires, but otherwise as low as possible. Both for stability, and useable travel of the suspension. I thought my cruiser was too low as it sits, but the handful of times I've taken it out I've been pleasantly surprised. Now, I'd never go out on the rocks, but for general expo type stuff, it's pretty good where it is. I do want to raise the back just a little to get the factory rake angle back so it's not nose high when loaded though.

I've tried to keep my cherokee as low as possible. That's why I've cut about 2.5" of fenders out. The great thing about solid axles is that suspension wise, up travel is the same as lift, so you can just cut your fenders and bump stop it. Slap bigger tires on it and boom your done. I know of guys who will cut their fenders off on a cherokee and run 35's stock.

Hell, most of the JK guys I wheel with only run 2.5-3" of lift. They just put high clearance fenders and boom, you got room for 37-40's.

Guilty as charged. I have a ton of pictures of different projects, including my truck (to the tune of about 200) and have just been too busy to really update my build page. I know, shame on me.

I have to admit that I really do like those front renders. I like the way they look.

LIAR! You are from DeBary, north of Orlando! I know where you live! hahaha

I agree with this, I have zero idea why guys who actually wheel their rigs jack them way up. It looks sketchy and definitely feels sketchy when you ride with them over any kind of serious obstacle.
