Took the long way home yesterday!

I love the peace of mind the sliders provide!

Without a doubt a MBA will benefit many engineers, especially those moving to management.

I think (I know I was at least), we were talking about a masters in engineering. And there are certainly jobs that benefit from either, or both, or have no benefit to having either.

Does he work at Evonik or something down there?

yes I was more specifically discussing a masters in engineering initially. in my experiences and work masters in engineering isn't important compared to PE, but a bachelors in engineering w/ PE and masters in management can get you far.

No he is the general manager over a refinery for Chevron. His first refinery manager was in Salt Lake City for 3 years (the reason I am familiar with Moab, The Arches, etc.). He is currently the Refinery Manager at a Chevron facility in Nigeria on a 28 day rotation but still lives in Norh Salt Lake.

Daaaaaaaaaang, I can imagine what that check is looking like.

When I worked in oil & gas, we had an engineer go to Nigeria for like 6 months. Came back, bought two weeks of vacation from the company, a new truck, and a new deep sea fishing boat. All in one fell swoop.

He gets a lot of frequent flyer miles. He had to fly to Thailand for a meeting this time before going on to Nigeria.

All this talk about education is great and all, but finding a trade you are interested in and are good at...sticking with it for a bit to get the most important asset (experience) and moving up from there is where essentially everything is moving towards. No offense to the ones that have that or pursuing it, but the ones that set out to get the "piece of paper" don't understand what its like to actually do the work that they want to manage over. This is just my observation over the last few years and it has steadily gotten worse. If I was in a hiring position, I would hire experience over education every time and not bat an eye.

Sounds like he gets to do a lot of cool travelling. That's one thing I didn't want and was scared of before I actually did it and realized the world is so much cooler and a lot less scary when you're travelling as a 'professional' than you would think. I miss it now I've switched jobs.
