Believe it or not, I try to stress this to any fellow engineers that I work with, cause I been the wrench in hand guy. It was simple stuff but I had people telling me what to do that had no damn clue. And it was always some dipstick engineer that just went because they were after a paycheck. The smartest people I've ever worked with are still the guys that spent decades as maintenance guys in HVAC and paper mills. I would trust their suggestions and advice 90 times out of 100.

But we gotta know as engineers, the impersonal HR recruiting mindset as it is now, 95% of the time, you may be the best fit in reality for a job but they'd never know it because "oh, well we require a 3.5 GPA. so we have to move on with other applicants." It's straight garbage. I skipped class to go to WORK because I was making As on my tests and didn't feel it necessary to be there but then got docked letter grades because of absences. Moronic.

This is exactly what I am talking about! Its like the analogy of do you trust your life more with the guy they can tell you what kinds of metal and shit his gun made of, or would you trust your life in the hands of a navy seal or marine that knows exactly how to use the gun, reload the gun, repair the gun, etc.??? Sorry, give me hands on guy EVERY DAMN TIME!

My cohort and I were supposed to look at sizing some regulators after lunch. I went over to his desk and sat down, noticed he was typing an email and proceeded to play on my phone.

After what seemed like an eternity of his typing, clicking, typing, clicking, more typing...

I said, "Dude, you uh...gonna wrap up that next NY Times best seller any time soon or...?"

"You are always rushing me," he retorts.

I grin and give a wry, drawn out response, "That's because you're always pootin' around."
