Are you stacked on the power to your radio? If so, try disconnecting the other things that are connected.

Is the ditch light bracket connected to the hood? If not, how does it tie to the truck? That will determine if you need the ground wire.

On the mount side, you have the plastic washer the same as I do, so you should be good for isolating the ground on the mount. The bracket for the ditch light and the bracket for you antennae are both non painted and the bolt should be good for both. The bolt itself may not be getting a solid enough ground, so might check the underside of the bracket where the nut is and expose a little bare metal there. I'd pull the spring off while your at it just to take one more thing out of the equation.

I wouldn't ignore it, I'm taking mine in mid-july to get it checked out b/c I'm in the recall. It's mainly the Mexico trucks. Engines have been stalling when accelerating onto interstates and people have almost gotten hit

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Thanks! I ended up just taking it to a CB shop because I wanted to get it "peaked and tuned" anyway. My problem was it was shorting out on the mount because I drilled a 3/8" hole which wasn't big enough for the lip on the plastic washer to fit inside. Oops. The SWR meter on the radio itself is pretty worthless. It still shows 2.3 on 40, under 1 on 1 and flips back and forth between those readings on 32. But his SWR meter was showing 1.3 on 1 and 1.5 on 40. He couldn't get it any better by messing with the screw on the antenna but said that was good to go.

On the way home there was a high speed chase with about 8 cops and a bunch of accidents so I tested it out with the truckers and it seems good.

High speed chase in the middle of tropical storm Cindy? How is that possible? The traffic on 280 was so bad today it took me an hour to go 4 miles

I don't know I didn't see it I just saw all the cops flying northbound on 65. But from what the drivers were saying it flipped around exit 284

It's just called CB shop. It's on the stony exit, next to the big truck stop. $18 to peak and tune. He said mine is putting out about 19 watts now. They check SWR for free and charged me $10 to drill out the mount and put a new washer on.

Yep exit 299. Would be better to stop by when you are up there for some reason. But the shop itself is good. There's one in pell city but it's mainly a trailer dealer, not sure of they peak and tune or whatnot but it might be worth giving them a call for something closer.
