Sorry to burst your ego bubble but my daughter squirted apple juice all over my iPad and while I was wiping the screen off I ended up in this thread. I didn’t think much of it and once cleaned off I clicked back to the previous thread I was in.

 

Nope, not a bit. May take a little time off tomorrow or Friday to even it out, but we are expected to work no matter.

So anybody looking at buying a home I just learned something stupid yesterday.

Property taxes came around and there was a charge on my mortgage account for $1,500!!!!! like wtf kinda taxes are those?!

so go down to the courthouse yesterday, turns out I CAN'T apply for homestead for the year. here's how it works:

if the previous homeowner was not applied for homestead as of October 1 of the previous year (so Oct 1 2016 for me) then I can't apply for homestead until the following year.

So I'm just eating that extra charge. Now I am applied for homestead for 2018 and my taxes will only be about 650-700$ next year.

The head's up being: don't buy a house until September, or verify the person has homestead lol

 

well yeah mine is too, but the $1,500 just came straight out of my escrow account. It's still my money being wasted.

 

yeah the company I closed with never said anything about it. taxes were prorated from Oct last year to Feb when I closed, but no mention about homestead.

 

yeah there's a lot to learn for sure. I feel confident in buying my next home now, and I am still confident in this house, but there's just always something that gets you.

 

I have considered that as well, we will see. I think I can make too much money selling this house to justify keeping it as a rental.
