Ok so this weekend I am doing my yard. I mean mowing, "poisoning", raking, and seeding.

I have some recommended weed killer (it kinda kills everything)...but I need to know what I should do for grass. I don't really have much grass...my yard is like 90% clover. So do I just pick a preferential grass seed and go with that? do I wait a week after the poison? I'm worried that when everything dies my yard will just be dirt...

really though, not gonna burn. I have 2,4D to kill weeds from the co-op.

 

Do not kill and plant in the same week, much less same day. Everything whether it be killer or seed requires/recommends to water it in. Not to mention anything from the co-op is going to be more potent than any "over the counter" stuff you get at a blue or orange box store.

 

Ok good to know, so just plan to mow and kill this weekend. How do I keep my yard from just becoming straight dirt lol...although that may be advantageous to growing grass later...

 

With the amount of shade your yard gets, straight dirt may be inevitable for a while. I cant fully remember but I want to say the type grass seed you need is a fescue. It is the most shade tolerant grass that will grow down here.

 

yeah I think that's correct, just didn't know if it mattered if I knew what type of grass I have now. it's such a little amount I figured it didn't, but who knows. my front yard is all I'm focused on and it actually gets quite a bit of sun but it's always morning hours.
