If I had my shop I'd be all over this. Could be a steal of a deal to get into a 4x4 runner for under 5k.

 

Gonna be at least $4,000 for a new 4.0 engine.

Salvage title with a rear end totaled vehicle can prolly be picked up for less. But I think you can get rebuilt 4.0 for 3k or so but not all 4.0 are created equal (t4r, fj, and taco all vary a little and in 09 there was and update to some and so on and so forth) but in a salvage vehicle you could pull the whole way and everything and not worry about matching up years

 

you don't have to go new! you could, but you don't have to.

I was thinking buy another totaled yet running 4runner.

 

the top end is different between 4R/FJ > Taco.

the 4R and Fj have a fair amount more power.

 

if you (or anyone) are serious about getting it and swapping an engine in, id hollar at @Torspd he has had a few out and in

 

too many other obligations, i just browse the marketplace looking for furniture, gardening equipment, and tools, and vehicles just pop up.

Shop has to be my number 1, and I think I now have enough to do the structure, but still saving for foundation (concrete and finishing) as well as a few other things to do with a shop. I think having 15k saved eventually will be more than enough. Needless to say I haven't ate out or done much entertainment spending in a long time lol.

so @stronghammer, if it's not too late since you're at 35's and never going down in size of tires have you looked into 5.29?

 

Nah. 4.88s is all I'm going. Had 5.29s before and it makes any normal driving miserable.

 

@whitedlite you interested in my current tires when I get a new set? Going to be buying them in a week or so most likely.

 

5.29's apparently are the new go to with the 3rd gen on 35's, but trans gearing is a lot different I suppose with dual OD

If i ever need regear I'll sell my complete rear axle and go currie; hopefully my stocker will cover 1/3 of the cost with the ARB in there.

given absolutely no plans on it because, I'd rather use my truck to pull a sammy or 1st gen runner.

 

I'll have to measure the tread depth tonight. They still have decent life in them though. I'll PM you tonight.

 

Not in that year model that you posted. It is the same. Through '09 for all three models.

The dual VVT-I which came out in '10, is a structurally weaker engine, with different components, better more capable cam phasing due to dual VVT-I, and the same name. Best to stick with what fits, unless you want the added difficulty of a whole new harness and ECU.
