wonderful so far! still babying the truck obviously. I don't drive much other than my work commute so I'm only at about ~150 miles on them...

need to do some tire size/mpg calculations too and see how it is now.

alright help me out here fellas, basic math kicking my arse.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=265-65r16-318-72r17

stock tire size is 265/65/17 and new ones "calculated" metric size is 318/72/17 (35x12.5x17)

that link above shows the difference. since speedo/trip meter is calibrated to the stock size, would I add 12.7% to the miles on my trip meter to get the actual distance traveled?

Depending on where the speed reading is taken on the vehicle, wouldn't gears bring your speedo back to stock therefore eliminating the need for correction?

I mainly meant trip meter, and the speedo has to be calibrated I still believe, because it definitely is not correct haha

Sounds like a pain in the butt. Lots of factors since you've got gears and larger tires to both account for.

I'm just thinking, per that website, that I need to add 12.7% to my miles.

meaning if I travel 100 miles per my trip meter, then in reality I've traveled 112.7 miles.

    right?

what is the reason for a differential break in cycle

is it because of the metal expanding and contracting in heat cycles, or is it just a safety procedure to make sure that they installed everything correctly?

I think a combination of all of that. The gears are brand new and never "contacted" each other so they are going to have initial wear on them. They say on the first initial fluid change at 500 miles expect metal in it.

Sounds right. I add about 8 miles per 100 when I do MPG calculations with my truck.

i'm guessing it's the make sure no damage, and everything is together correctly.

I don't know this, but i doubt the differential gets hot enough to do much expanding. Given I haven't looked into what temp metal starts expanding. I just know I gave my truck hell before 500 miles, but that was new differential not new gears. All in all better safe than sorry

I do know when I put my ring gear on the ARB i put it in the oven at 450 degrees to make it slide on to the carrier easier though

I typically drive like a grandpa anyways on my day to day driving. Once I'm past the 500 miles and do the fluid change I'll probably step up the aggression some and obviously be offroading again. I'm just following ol' warranty's rules to perfection right now.

I drive slow in my truck always speed limit and slow to get to it, I was more referring to going through my pasture and going to a few small hills to test lockers.

since I don't drive my truck too much when it reaches temperature though I like to get on the interstate and slow down as much as possible on the on ramp if no ones behind me then just run it as hard as I can to about 80-85 to clean things out. This has a name, but i can't remember what it is, but this is like a proven method to helping engines lol.

    Not right.
When you changed gears it changed your RPMs so even if you had your stock tires your speedometer and MPG would have changed.
So the % if tire difference is not the only factor in RPMs, you have to factor gear ratio also.

disregard RPMs, that's not what I'm worried about. trying to calculate MPGs.

gears/rpms don't affect miles traveled or gallons available in the gas tank. I know higher RPMs burn more fuel, but all I need to know is miles traveled vs. how much fuel it used.

    Correct.
But what number are you going to use to get miles traveled?

RPMs to an extent means more fuel, engline load matters more so, such as my TDi at 70 is turning about 2600 rpms, surprisingly a diesel that likes to be revved.

also @JBTacoma he can just use a gps to calculate miles, then divide that by the gallons.
