Alabama thread!

So just want some opinions. Thinking about getting some weld on sliders rather than bolt on. I expect them to make contact with rocks during off-roading so dunno if it’s worth paying the extra for powdercoat...a lot of folks seem keen on painting it themselves and touching it up as they go. My worry with that is if it’s welded on it’s gonna be hard to touch up. So thoughts?

 

easy touch up while on the truck. hold a long cardboard against the truck / rockers and spray away

 

Yea that’s true. I want the 20 degree ones that angle up towards the body. Mobtown makes em and I love the angled style better than the 0 degrees. But you’re probably right still can paint them that way.

I have bolt-on, coated Mobtowns with 20° and kickouts on my truck. You are welcome to come look at them. I would compare the coating on mine more to a spray in bedliner material or skateboard tape than powercoating or paint. The coating has held up very well. There are a few spots on the bottom I have touched up with spray paint to prevent rust.

The bolt-on are super strong. Only gripe is they were a bitch to install.

Not sure I've quite earned the title welding wizard yet though. Haha.

Sadly, that'll probably be the best business name I can think of and I'll end up going with it.

 

@Jerneyman I managed to get my skid painted this weekend, but Red Dead Redemption 2 + bubble guts almost all weekend prevented me from tempting fate and trying to lift it and move it around to get mounted.

 

Nice, well that's a good enough excuse for me. Lol.

What did you recommend painting them with? I didn't have anything planned this weekend, and still ended up so busy I didn't even think about them, much less shop for paint lol.

I used rustoleum primer and then the rustoleum professional grade matte black spray paint. It comes in a silver can I think at Home Depot. You can sometimes find it cheap at Walmart too if your lucky.

 

Not sure I’m ok with that. Wiener welding doesn’t sound like something I’d enjoy very much.
