You're one of the few, my friend. I've met many that didn't like Bama until they were constantly winning.

I have a feeling there were a lot of alabama fans, even when they were losing. The difference is that they were not yelling ROLLLL TIDEEE all the time when they were losing lol

That's only because I wasn't on here when Alabama was losing lol.

But I get your point and have said the same thing for many teams not just Alabama. My family is half Auburn and half Alabama. But many people only want to cheer their team on only when the're winning.

Yeah. It's like my Cowboys. It is hard to watch when they make simple mistakes and lose, but I still cheer them on. I am worried at this point this year. I don't think they will make it to the playoffs, but stranger things have happened. I will be honest that it will take a LOT for them to make it. Some REALLY good teams will have to screw up, and the Cowboys will have to win every game from now thru the end of the regular season almost.

My sister is a cowboys fan through and through. I am a 49ers fan through thick and thin. Even though our teams were once badasses, they pretty much suck now. But we cheer them on anyway.

I was going to Alabama Games before i could ever understand what i was doing. & not once have i ever thought about switching teams, I respect those Auburn fans that stick with it after the season they had. True Fans! and Roll Tide!

Every auburn fan I know is either an alumni or currently attending. The extent of being a fan extends well beyond football. I am an auburn fan more for what it represents and it's creed.

Never once have I seen an auburn fan quit yelling war eagle. They just add an anyways to the end when it involves football.

That's the thing about rivalries, you notice the rivals fans more when you are losing. Yes, there are fair weather fans out there but whats the point in getting exciting over losing...

I have GOT to make this comment: Is Auburn confused with themselves or what? They yell War Eagle, yet their mascot is a tiger? Lmao....Just teasing....

Most college fans do not understand a lot about the auburn team. Our mascot is the tigers, yet our cheer is war eagle. Our representatives are called plainsmen.

The reason for auburn earning the "The Plainsmen" reference is that our field is referred to as "The Plains". Not sure why other colleges think we are called Plainsmen. It would be like calling Florida "Swampsmen" or LSU "death valleymen".

As far as War Eagle: "War Eagle's story begins in the Civil War. According to the legend, a soldier from Alabama was the sole Confederate survivor of a bloody battle, Battle for the Wilderness. Stumbling across the battlefield, he came across a wounded young eagle. The bird was named Anvre, and was cared for and nursed back to health by the soldier. Several years later the soldier, a former Auburn student, returned to college as a faculty member, bringing the bird with him. For years both were a familiar sight on campus and at events. On the day of Auburn's first football game in 1892 against the University of Georgia, the aged eagle broke away from his master during the game and began to circle the field, exciting the fans. But at the end of the game, with Auburn victorious, the eagle fell to the ground and died."

Please read the above. It's actually pretty cool, fan or not. If you don't care for auburn, Alabama fan or not, it's actually quite breath taking watching an eagle fly around a stadium (except for when he crashes into a window).

War Eagle is not a mascot, but a phrase. It would be like asking why Alabama fans are "Roll Tiders/Crimson Tiders".

I've never once questioned why Alabama is called the Crimson Tide, why they yell Roll Tide, and why they aren't called the elephants. I googled it! Plus a lot of my friends go there and I have been to various Alabama games (not just the iron bowl).

It's hard to do ANYTHING but hope they pull something outta their ass when they are losing! Like during LSU and Texas A&M. Luckily they did pull something outt their ass on LSU. Tried on Texas A&M but didn't get all the way down there. When our teams are winning, it's easy to get on Facebook, TW or whatever it is we all get on and shout for our team. When we are losing, it's harder.
    Does everyone get my point???

I'm a transplant to Alabama, my college didn't have a team until a couple years ago (BSC, last year they had one when I was there was back in like '35 or something). I consider myself nominally a Mississippi State fan only because I almost went there, and my best friend growing up went there. I'm about to become a UA fan via marriage, as my wife's family are all fans. This in spite of the fact that she graduated from AU, and my bro in law went there for a few years before finally graduating from UAB on the 7 year undergrad program.

I freely admit that generally I DGAF about football, and that I'm fairly opportunistic about who I follow, but hey, it works for me.
