No springs on the tracks. The new spring winds/twists tightly as the door closes. When you open the garage door, it unwinds/twists, turning the shaft, thus aiding in lifting the weight of the door.

I'm not sure on that. We had our right side coil spring break this year and just had a garage door serviceman come out and fix it for us. Cost us like $75 for new spring/installation and lubing up the wheels/tracks, etc.

Broken torsion spring. Shaft holds it safely in place, instead of flying around busting out your windshield of your vehicle, like the track springs would etc.

Hey so I have these springs on the side of the tracks, are they the same thing?

I just remember my home inspector put in the report that the door didn’t have safety springs whatever that means.

I believe those spring should have a wire running through the middle of them. What's the front end of the spring attached to? A cable that's attached to the bottom of the door?

@stronghammer sadly I'll be going around huntsville sunday on i65 towards nashville, but on a bit of a time crunch.

also, you can do the extension springs with parts from Lowe's, you cannot buy the parts to do the torsion springs though as retailers won't take the liability of selling them to you.

torsion is without a doubt better, but at a cost.

@cubie how much did you pay for your spring repair?

To the bottom of the door.

Ignore the nice black piece I’m trying to locate my new sensors

you're right they need a safety cable so if they break they can't go anywhere.

You had springs the whole time Scotty! When you open your door, those springs should be in its relaxed state. When the door is closed, they should be stretched. Those will work with your garage door opener. I heard adjusting torsion/coil springs are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I didn't know what I was doing, so I called a serviceman! Just run you a metal wire down the middle of those springs and you should be alright. @whitedlite, are you a garage door specialist?

He installs them I know that, some of his work looks incredible and higher end than I would usually buy lol. If all I needs is some cable in that spring then heck that’s easyyyyy

They sometimes have a cable running through the spring to prevent them from slinging around when not if they break.

    What company was that?

Yes sir, I've been doing it since 2010. It was what paid for college, and has supported every other irrational purchase I've made.

Thanks Scotty, and that cable is all that's needed.
