Well...if your pay period ended 8/1 and your benefits started 8/1, sounds like it'd be on this next pay cycle. Still worth an email to HR though.

 

If you started the middle of the month, benefits will not become active until the first of the next month. If that's the case then you haven't been paid for that time anyways. Usually by the second check depending on where you start in the pay cycle and month, everything should be correct.

it's just weird that 401k showed up and benefits didn't. well, I guess that's not weird is it since 401k is active as soon as you enroll?

 

That sounds about right since you have been there for at least 2 weeks, like everyone said just contact HR and they will let you know if anything is up. Just for peace of mind

 

Yeah, I have heard nightmares about HR there. I have some in-laws that work there and and at childrens and they complain a good bit to me about it. haha

 

yeah I just submitted a support ticket to them asking about it. I was just hoping this 1st check would be my "baseline" to start budgeting/planning, but if none of the insurance is taken out then I don't want to plan it yet lol

 

Ok new topic to get you all going today...

How did you all ask your significant other's father (or parents) for permission to marry their daughter?

If you didn't, why not? If you did, how? If you just asked the father, or both parents, why?

 

The hardest part was finding the opportunity to talk to him one-on-one. Wouldn't be so hard now that I'm living in Huntsville again but during college, that was difficult. Found a time where my wife (girlfriend at the time) was out of the house and I just cornered him up while he was in his office. Once I got the first sentence out, it was too easy. We just had a conversation after that. If you got good in-laws they'll be thrilled when you ask them.

 

them? or him? Her dad is super approachable, her mom holds a secret about as well as I hold a fart so I'm skeptical about asking her haha!

I don't know if I'll have a chance at one on one in person, is phone call unacceptable?

 

I only talked with him, but naturally her mom found out too. Tell one of them, both of them know. Lol. If you can, I'd do it in person. But you know her dad better than any of us.

 

I actually think her dad wouldn't tell her mom this. I'm sure they've discussed it amongst themselves already.

Last Christmas I was getting Amy a really nice purse right? It came in multiple colors, so I asked Amy's closest friends what color is best, and I thought it'd be nice to ask her mom too just to include her. Well on a drive back from a trip we took to Dothan to see some of their family her mom was like "Scotty, can you send me the link to that purse you're getting whoever for Christmas?" I said "uh, sure" and Amy looked at me with a sly grin "oh what purse?", and her dad was like "You IDIOT!" straight at her mom lol

 

we may even do courthouse lol. wedding isn't in the discussion yet, but it's been mentioned.

 

Amy is a DADDYS GIRL if I've ever seen one. They are so close. He does everything in the world for her. I think it's an obligation of mine to ask him. Totally get your situation though.

 

At least do like a friends and family reception/party if you don't do a full blown wedding. People still want to give you wedding gifts and get drunk due to your happiness. haha

 

oh for sure, a reception would occur. Just not the wedding, if that's what gets decided.

 

Can the reception be at Chocco or something?

 

knowing her, the reception will probably be at a dadgum dog park and everyone will be asked to bring their pups.

 

my parents don't care, they've had 2 from my sisters. her parents don't want to pay for a wedding lol, doesn't mean they don't want one though.

 

I'm actually on board with that idea. Sounds like a fun day to be honest.
