Hey I see this conversation going well. "Hey now that you're here, I need you to make sure you come straight home after work to let the dogs out so I can hang out at the gym after work." Adding please might help?

that's what is appealing about a home gym, but the lack of equipment and motivation kill that.

 

I see my dog as family too. But I think its harder on her being cooped up inside all day not being about to pee than a bit of heat. Dogs may be domesticated, but I think a decent percentage of a healthy dogs life should be outside. Don't get me wrong, if there is a heat advisory or other nasty weather, I make plans for Lucy to stay in and be let out, but otherwise she's outside.

Sounds like you have more to consider than just the weather though as far as leaving yours outside. They sound like trouble makers like their daddy.

 

You’re pretty fit man! You can just tell who works out and who doesn’t. I think you and I are around the same weight range and would make great workout partners. Jeannie and I work out together. She spots me and I spot her.

 

haha nah I wasn't saying you're cruel to Lucy, I agree it's sometimes nicer for them to have free bathroom access than to not.

Oscar's just a guard dog and Sophie is just F'ing mental.

 

Yeah, Lucy is neither. Although she does pretend to be a guard dog when the UPS guy knocks on the door. Haha

idk I gotta figure something out. Oscar would love to stay outside honestly, and people could get over the barking....gotta figure Sophie out though...I've thought about a tethered runner or something but I'm afraid she'd get herself caught or hang herself on something ridiculous...

 

Yeah, if she's mental, I don't think any sort of restraint would be good. Haha

 

exactly. I've done everything I can think of to keep her from getting out of the fence but damn she ALWAYS finds a way. She's the one I took in from my sister because she kept escaping their fence....by going through the electrical wire and just taking the shock. she didn't care, she wanted out..though a chain link fence would stop her (theirs was a 3 slat farm fence with electrical below it) but nope it didn't.

 

the housing/shelter isn't the issue at all. they have a whole covered deck to stay on. the issue is giving them access to outside, means giving her access to escape.

 

lol trust me, I've been working on this fence issue since I moved in...

 

Fix the fence and this...

 

How about a runner between two trees with a 15 ft. leader? That'll keep em in the yard! I'm seriously thinking of building a dog door on my back deck so ours can go outside when we're not home.

 

the fence is fixed everywhere she's getting out...that's the complication lol. idk if you've ever seen a dog with a fear of thunder/arsenal testing as bad as this one....she'll do anything to get out.

the runner wouldn't allow her access to shelter, and as I said earlier she's so mentally crazy I'm afraid she'd hang herself or do something else crazy to hurt herself or even Oscar.

 

Train her to use litter box?

they stay inside with no access to outside.

I have a covered deck on the back they can stay on, if I started leaving them outside, but I have to prevent her from escaping to do that.
