It does. The other 3 are short from birth defect. Makes that one an easy target.

 

Test drive: no good! Axel seal leaking. I replaced it, because ecgs recommended to since I have 320,000 miles on it. Wish I didn’t. Now I got to figure it how to fix it.
Any suggestions?

 

Unfortunately it will be a complete rinse and repeat. There is supposed to be a spring inside it. If it got loose, that could be the problem. They are pretty much impossible to reseat while in the diff. I think replacing the seal is worse than the bearing.

I don’t have any pics handy but mine cracked there too. I believe it’s from “spirited driving”. Anyways, first I attempted to TIG it. Split back open next trip out. Then I cut it all out around the crack and welded in a piece of 14 gauge. Has held up thus far.

 

Ask everyone I have wheeled with, but I don’t off-road spirited. But I did run a washboard road out in Moab (22 miles I believe) at 35/40 this spring. Not sure when this happened, just noticed it today though.

This is going to be a pain to weld up.

 

That’s the type of driving that’ll do it. I’d bet it cracked then and spread.

I used to be the weld engineer in a bus frame shop and I now work with the best welder I have ever seen. He might be willing to tig it for you for a price.

I was planning on running two group 35s and I bought 1 last week when my stock battery died. But, I just realized I can get a group 31 for less than a 35.
