It's a wet and sloppy day! It's raining so hard, even the easy local trails here have become muddy, soupy, tank traps right now.

It was 75 when I stepped out the door this morning. It's supposed to drop to 45 by early afternoon! Gotta take the youngest boy out trick or treating tonight, hopefully the rain will have let up by then! Happy Halloween to all of yall and your kids!

I hope it's nice here too! W'll probably hit the local churches, fire stations and PD for the trunk or treats festivities they have going on. If we got time, we'll hit the old neighborhood I used to live in, tons of kids and tons of homes that still give out candy. Hope yall have a great time Pat!

Three seasons in one day today. Spring, Fall and Winter will sweep across the state into the evening. Look for storms around lunch depending on your location, then the temps will drop like a rock. Actually they will be dropping all day. The temp at 5pm in East Alabama should be about 39°F. Big change! Good!

Easy to see where the cold front is

    From AlabamaWX

NWS Birmingham has upgraded the Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning for the following counties in Central Alabama: Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, Winston.

    * WHAT…Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected.

    * WHERE…Portions of central, east-central, northeast, northwest and west-central Alabama.

    * WHEN…From 1 AM to 9 AM CDT Friday.

    * IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The cold front has now entered the northwestern corner of the state and is bringing in a couple more rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms as of 6:55 am. The low that the front originates from is now over northern Kentucky and will continue to move farther away to the northeast. Once again, as it has been the story through the overnight hours, nothing severe to report at the second, but we do have a strong storm over Bibb County that could have some winds up to 40 MPH.

The latest radar scan shows very little, if any, lightning at all in the leading line moving across the central to southwestern portions of the area. Much of the lightning is back into southwestern Alabama and into southeastern Mississippi and over the far eastern parts of Louisiana.

There are no watches or warnings for anyone in the southeastern US at the moment.

The latest Day 1 Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center continues to show a Marginal Risk for locations east of a line from just west of Hytop to Cleveland to just east of Brent and north of a line stretching from Prattville to Hurtsboro.

Main threats continue to be from isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and a very small chance of a brief tornado.

The good news is that shear has become unidirectional which will limit the potential for any updrafts in stronger storms to rotate. At this point, the ingredients are just not lining up and it will be very difficult for storms to become severe, but not impossible.

    Happy Halloween peeps!

Mornin' Bama! My daughter rear-ended someone this morning on the way to school. She's fine, but the airbags deployed and the front end is totaled. Said she was following too close and she couldn't stop in time. Damnit, another expensive mistake!

True that man. I was just telling her a few weeks ago when she took me somewhere, that she is riding way too close to the car in front of her. We only have liability on her car, since it's older. Oh well, you live and you learn.

There's always paw paw's old F150 that she learned how to drive in. She hates that truck, but I guess she has no other choice. Nobody is driving my 2nd gen, due to the bald mud tires. I drove it to work today and it's slicker than owl shit on the road.

I'm a pretty spirited driver, but not today. It was the speed limit, in the right lane all the way to work! It's raining buckets here right now.

I have to take storm water samples today, and I forgot my Frogg Toggs at the house this morning...o_O
