It did but the home front in Albertville and workplace in Crossville are OK. I live on Short Creek and it is crazy high. We can hear the ROAR inside our house.

I was up until 1 something. I trust myself staying up watching it, more than relying on something waking me up haha

I don't think it's too bad. Just a laundry room and a 4x4 section of carpet.

    yooooooo, technical chat.

symptoms of bad/failed lower ball joints?

I have issues with both vehicles (98 4runner and 11 Tacoma) that feel sort of similar.

start with the 4runner. had the steering rack replaced, but I still have a "wobble" on the driver side front. still happens intermittently, and it's less severe since having the rack replaced. it's worse going downhill, and having to hit the brakes hard....but it doesn't always occur when I'm braking. I also feel the wobble more at speeds like 45mph and higher.

Tacoma. so @TacoAlaMode and @BamaTaco56 this stuff started happening shortly after Chocco, and it may be from whatever happened on rubicon...but again, it's not every time I drive the truck. lately though, when I crank up and first take off in reverse out of the driveway I get a "clunk" from what feels/sounds like the front driver side. nothing else, just a feeling/sound. then when I take off down the road at lower speed it feels similar to the "wobble" I get in the 4runner, but in no way tied to the brakes, and it doesn't seem to happen at the higher speeds like the 4runner I really only feel it in the Tacoma at slow speeds and generally only after first takeoff.

    thoughts...?

is there any sign of the ball joint leaking grease? Have you tried putting it on a jack and wobbling the tire in all 4 directions?

I had previously on the 4runner before having the rack replaced and it didn't show signs.

It's on the agenda today to check both of them.

Does it feel like its a rotational issue or more of an up and down issue. like suspension travel vs wheel rotation?

I'll answer that the best I can haha.

    No?

honestly neither. the clunk just happens backing up first time in the truck. the wobble happens in both vehicles going straight down the road, not turning, no bumps, no anything just feels like that one tire is wobbling, worse in the t4r than in the tacoma but similar in both... when downhill on the brakes hard in the 4runner it'll damn shake the whole thing. rotors/pads have been replaced but I'm going to check them again...

I know this is all clear as mud..

Sounds rotational to me then. But no way to tell honestly. Is it so bad that you are worried about driving both vehicles?

yes, at this point I am. I've left the 4runner in the driveway because of it, but still take the truck to work since it's less severe and less frequent. it happened again this morning though so might have to take Amy's 4runner to work...

Damn that sucks.... Im sorry man. I hate that. I would jack both vehicles up on jack stands with you have a min and inspoect very aprt of the front end. Make sure no boots are torn. I woul also check your wheel bearings and rotors. Make sure there is no worp on the rotors and the bearings are still in good shape. I have heard of people having issues with the Tacoma on 35's and their steering racks. Not sure if that applies to your situation. But def sounds rotational just from the info youve provided. If the ball joint was going bad i feel like you would feel it ALOT going over stuff.

Yeah I’m going to have to check it out. The Tacoma honestly could be alignment issue since I haven’t taken it after going to Chocco but that doesn’t explain the clunk

Clunking is usually a sign of a bad joint. I’d lift it off the ground and wiggle the tire left/right at the 9 and 3 position and and then wiggle at 12 and 6 position

Carrier bearing? Usually happens under acceleration or deceleration load.
