Hey @Arrowshot when you go to colorado do you ever go to the Ouray, Telluride, Silverton area? If so do you know of any hidden camp areas that are secure enough for us to set up a base camp and leave it there everyday?

When are you going and are you going to hunt or ride trails? We stayed in Telluride for our hunt. They close off mountain passes about late September or October and even earlier depending on snow. I really wanted to make the ride up Camp Bird road but it was already gated and locked by forest service and we got there on 15 Oct. There is national forest all around the area and that is your best bet for a base camp. Quite honestly you have to take your chances as far as anyone raiding your camp site. Leaving someone there is the best way to protect it. One way to look at it is that people riding trails are not normally riding trails to find peoples camp sites you just never know. Good locks and chains that can't be cut with bolt cutters are a good thing to have. I don't know how all the Covid panic has changed things but not certainly for the better.

Im hoping i can get to a first come first serve site in one of the federal campgrounds and post up for the week.

Campgrounds can be booked up but national forest you just park where you want as long as the road is an approved one to ride. June will be a great time and wish I was going with you. Been to Colorado a lot of times and I met a guy at a rifle range here in Alabama who was going to hunt elk the same season as me and he has family there. Talked to him a bit about the multiple places I had been in the state and he said I was going to know Telluride is the most beautiful part of the state. He was right. The place is stunning beautiful and very laid back.Between Montrose and Telluride are some great places to ride. Ralph Lauren has a 40,000 acre ranch (the Double RL) there (look for the nicest wood fenced property that runs for a few miles between Telluride and Montrose) and we hunted some leases behind his place. The Uncompahgre Natiional Forest ishould definitely be on your list of places to explore (we didn't have the time during our hunting trip there).
