I like it here. Camping on a Thursday night is nice, not crowded at all. Tanya works the weekends, so I used some leave time for us to come down.

My wife is a respiratory therapist at Crestwood. 3 floors of Huntsville Hospital now devoted to increased numbers of COVID and non-essential surgeries all put on hold again. 14 employees at Cullman Hospital got the bug to include one respiratory therapist. They wanted her to come in for extra hours to swab people for COVID. I told her we don't need the money that bad if it increases her risk of getting infected. Signs requiring masks now up at all businesses that I went to since 7 July.

HOT, HUMID SUMMER WEATHER: Look for a high in the low 90s today, and mid 90s tomorrow as heat levels continue to rise across Alabama. The sky will be partly sunny both days, and while showers and thunderstorms are possible, they will be few and far between. Then, on Sunday, a surface boundary will slice into the hot, humid, unstable air, and will set the stage for strong, possibly severe thunderstorms. SPC has roughly the northern two-thirds of the state in a “marginal risk” (level 1/5)…

The main threat with thunderstorms Sunday will come from strong, potentially damaging winds, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Otherwise we expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the low 90s.

NEXT WEEK: No doubt it will be the hottest week so far in 2020. We expect highs in the 94-99 degree range through the week as an upper ridge builds over the region. The chance of cooling shower is tiny Monday through Wednesday… a few widely scattered afternoon storms could pop up later in the week Thursday and Friday. But, nothing widespread. The heat will be the big story. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Fay is packing sustained winds of 50 mph, and is just offshore near the Delmarva peninsula. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Cape May New Jersey to Watch Hill Rhode Island including Long Island and Long Island Sound. The center will move inland tonight; it is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated maxima of 7 inches along and near the track from the lower Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware northward into New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeast New York, and southern New England. These rains may result in flash flooding where the heaviest amounts occur.

The rest of the Atlantic basin, including the Gulf of Mexico, is very quiet.

ON THIE DATE IN 2005: Dennis made landfall as a category three hurricane near Navarre Beach. The hurricane had reached Category 4 strength for the third time earlier in the day on July 10 as it approached Florida, attaining its lowest barometric pressure of 27.46″. This ranked Dennis as the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic basin to form before August; however, this record was broken just six days later by Hurricane Emily, which surpassed Dennis and attained Category 5 status. In Alabama, sustained winds reached minimal hurricane force in the interior of the state. In total, 280,000 people in our state experienced power outages during the storm. No deaths occurred, although Dennis caused three injuries and total damage amounted to $127 million mostly due to structural damage. There was also severe damage to cotton crops.

It appears that this is regional, some places are hot for it, some aren’t. Evidently the Gadsden area hospitals are nowhere near full capacity. Stay safe out there John!

I don’t like this weather report! Lol. I’m out in this heat for work and it sucks! Im acclimated to it, but it doesn’t suck any less. I’m ready for fall weather, hopefully SEC football, and hunting/camping season.

anybody ever half-woken up from sleep and 100% swear you see something, like a bug/spider, a shadow or figure, etc...

it happens to me occasionally, Amy says often, but I usually just attribute it to like maybe my cell phone lighting up and causing a shadow...alarm clock lights or whatever.

but last night I SWORE I saw something crawling along the headboard then got over on my nightstand and onto my phone. like enough that I hopped up and turned the lamp on just to make sure. I was like "Amy do you see that?!" to which she ignored me...

maybe so! I have no idea, because sometimes it's not spiders but shadows and figures. It never ever feels like a dream either. Like I'm fully aware of what's happening and the room around me, it feels like it happens most often as I'm just falling asleep. Amy says it happens a lot lol

Son's wife worked at Broken Egg by Huntsville Hospital. Just fully reopened two weeks ago and now completely closed again after employee tested positive. Playing havoc with their income.
