Yeah woodlawn is no fun. If you have a gun I would suggest bringing it. As far as stuff to do, Avondale is a fun little community that is about 5 miles from downtown B-Ham. Saw's in avondale is great for some BBQ or Post Office Pies if you are feeling pizza. Then right next door to all of that is Avondale Brewery. Typically on a good weekend they have a band playing on their stage out back with some corn hole and other stuff going on. Ton of stuff to do in B-Ham though.

Just remember that your VA pistol permit isn't valid for AL. When VA decided to not honor AL then AL decided to reciprocate.

Question, my son is going to Liberty next year and saw where you can get a nonresident pistol permit in VA. Is that something that you can get if you are just visiting for short trips throughout the year or going to school in VA?

Do you guys recommend staying in a hotel in Irondale or Fultondale? There's not many good hotels near the airport and I'm limited by job funding on where I can choose.

There's a Hampton inn in Irondale close to I459. Personally I'd look in trussville.

Was looking in to that. I have to commute to the north side of the airport near E Lake for the duration of my time there.

Trussville would be my choice. If I remember correctly there's some hotels right by the interstate. Irondale and East lake are kinda shady.

By the way, VA just announced they were going to recognize pistol permits from all states, so maybe AL will recognize yours when you come.

I have to go to Drill up on the North side of the airport and I know they set the guys up in downtown at the Sheraton, next to the BJCC, and they say its really nice but it is a little pricey.

Irondale forsure. Fultondale is really nice too. Dont think you could go wrong either way. Just probably a little shorter of a drive to the airport. Either option is 100 times better than Woodlawn.

If you are taking the taco, I will tell you right now, it is much more than a 10 hr drive. I've made the trip multiple times from richmond to Birmingham and back. (That is if you are talking about that being your drive)

Best time I've made in the taco is a hair under 11.5. Made it in less in the wife's rav4 though.
