    From AlabamaWX

DRY THROUGH SUNDAY: A quiet weather pattern will persist across Alabama through the weekend. Expect a good supply of sunshine today and tomorrow, followed by a partly sunny sky Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows in the 50s early tomorrow, and low 60s over the weekend. A few isolated showers could show up near the Gulf Coast Saturday, but most of the state will remain dry.

NEXT WEEK: Dry, mild weather continues Monday and Tuesday; a few isolated showers could show up over the latter half of the week, but for now we are not expecting anything widespread. A decent rain event could unfold over the following weekend (November 14-15) as Eta moves in from the Gulf, but there remains considerable uncertainly in that scenario. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Eta is a tropical depression that is inland over Honduras this morning. It is expected to move back into the Caribbean tomorrow, becoming better organized and strengthening again. The latest NHC forecast moves the system over Cuba Sunday, and to a point near Key West early next week.

There is low confidence in the forecast, especially at 3-5 days; until the system gets back over the water and becomes better organized, models will have a hard time initializing the system. But there is certainly a decent chance Eta will be in the Gulf of Mexico by the middle of next week.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet; the hurricane season will end at the end of this month.

RAIN UPDATE: Here are rain totals for the year so far, and the departure from average…

    Birmingham 67.02″ (+22.06″)
    Muscle Shoals 65.83″ (+22.44″)
    Huntsville 63.95″ (+19.73″)
    Tuscaloosa 60.02″ (+16.62″)
    Montgomery 59.58″ (+15.48″)
    Anniston 54.72″ (+13.23)
    Mobile 51.89″ (-4.73″)

ON THIS DATE IN 1894: A significant snowstorm impacted New England on November 5 through the 6. It formed off the New Jersey coast on the 5 and passed east of Connecticut with rapidly increasing heavy rain and snow, along with high winds. The heavy snow and high winds caused significant damage to trees and brought down telegraph poles by the hundreds. The telegraph and telephone service in all southern New England was crippled, and fallen poles and trees delayed railroad trains.

Do any of you know fire laws in Alabama pertaining to outdoor prescribed burns? There is a landowner with about 30-40 acres he set on fire yesterday. The issue is the smoke blowing directly into our neighborhood. Has been for over 24 hours now. Beulah Fire will not put the fire out because he has the proper permits. We have a neighborhood watch and everybody is complaining about the smoke entering their homes. It has permeated our house so much so that when I woke up this morning my throat and nose hurt.

I find it hard to believe the fire department cant do anything about this. It's obviously a health hazard. It's also a driving hazard. My Wife said she couldn't see the road last night the smoke was so thick. I mean, do I call the Sheriff? State Troopers? I've put a call in to the Alabama Forestry Commission as sent emails to them.

A screenshot of the smoke. I feel terrible for the people directly across the road from the property.

I see your reasoning for wanting it to be put out. However I don't agree with any one telling another what they can and can't do with their land.

As long as they're not pouring oil into the ground ruining it.

I agree or unless what they are doing on their land somehow has an effect of land near or around it.

Burning is shown to improve the grounds for new growth, plus clearing that underbrush will make everything look better.

Choking on the smoke for over 24 hours now, even from inside my own house isn't ok. He should be able to do what he wants but when it effects the health of others it should be put out. Did he have a smoke management plan? Who knows? The winds are blowing directly into a neighborhood. I seriously doubt that was considered.

He clear cut the land months ago. Then sprayed the entire area with poison to kill off the brush. Once it was dead, he lit it.

It’s a very tough situation. There may be nothing that can legally be done, if they spray the fires with water it will only cause more smoke.

If the winds will die down and the smoke will ride the issue wouldn’t be there.

Hope it doesn’t cause any ill effects to you or your neighbors.

The fireman I spoke with last night was agitated and I assume because their phone was ringing off the hook. Years ago there was that one neighbor that burned debris all the time and I was told that if the smoke is a nuisance they will put it out. Not so with this large acreage burn apparently. I know per our neighborhood watch the houses directly in contact with the land being burned are claiming they have smoke damage to the interior of their homes. I'm honestly surprised at how bad the smell is in our home considering the distance we are from the area. Maybe they have a right to legal action :notsure: I guess that is for their home owners insurance to figure out. I hate it for em

To be clear I don't have an issue with what he does with his own land. On more days than not the winds are the opposite direction where this wouldn't effect anyone. Bad timing situation apparently
