Getting ready to drop kids off, Doc for annual physical, pull kids Christmas out to make sure we got everything and then kid pick up. Was this a vacation day?

COLDER, DRIER: A large mass of rain has moved out of Alabama early this morning; it brought rain amounts of one to two inches to much of the state. A small, brief tornado apparently touch down shortly after 1:00 a.m. in Southwest Jefferson County near the Hoover/Bessemer line knocking down some trees and power lines.



We expect a clearing sky today with a high in the 52-55 degree range this afternoon; the average high for Birmingham on December 14 is 56.

MORE RAIN: Tomorrow will be a dry day with a partly sunny sky; after a low in the low to mid 30s, the high will be in the mid 50s. Clouds increase tomorrow night ahead of the next weather system approaching, and some rain is possible after midnight. Rain is likely Wednesday, especially during the morning hours. No risk of severe storms; in fact temperatures will hold in the 40s north of Birmingham through the day. Rain amounts with this feature will be around 1/2 inch, and the rain will end from west to east Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday and Friday will be rain-free; expect a good supply of sunshine both days. Morning lows will be in the 26-32 degree range… the high Thursday will be close to 50, followed by mid 50s Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Clouds return Friday night, and global model data suggests rain will be likely at some point Saturday or Saturday night. For now no severe storms are expected, and rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch. Sunday will feature a clearing sky; highs over the weekend will be in the 50s, right at seasonal averages for this time of the year.

CHRISTMAS WEEK: Long range guidance hints at some rain around Christmas Eve (Thursday), followed by clearing and colder weather Friday. Otherwise, the week looks fairly quiet with no high impact weather events for the Deep South. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.



ON THIS DATE IN 1997: A surprise snow event unfolded as a deep, cold core upper low moved into Mississippi. Dynamic cooling was responsible for changing rain over to snow, and it continued into West Alabama. What was expected to be a big rain event brought 4 to 8 inches of heavy, wet snow from near Jackson, Mississippi to Demopolis, Alabama.

I got vacation week lol we started swing shift I worked last week so I’m off this week get paid to sit at home. Gonna spend the day with kiddo then move garage to new house garage this week.

 

just counting down the days until moving all my stuff this weekend! Fridge and washer/Dryer got delivered this weekend and i took alot of misc stuff over to the house and put up the Christmas tree. Most importantly got the internet setup lol

 

So they couldn't cure cancer for 40 years, no cure for flu and no cure for common cold yet they whipped this up in 9 months. Hmmm!

 

Views this morning. Got power back on around 7:00. Will save those tiny trees for the tractor when I get home.

 

They went to the moon in 9 years from start to finish. LOL

They turned me away for my physical this morning cause I said I had a cough or I could go get tested. Said 90% of people were not showing fever, had cough, sinus and headache. I said well dam I’ve had Covid for 40 years FFS! I opted for a teleconference. I was mad as a mother!

 

I think comparing cancer to the flu is kind of apples and oranges, but I get where you’re coming from. That being said, they do modify the flu vaccine every year as it adapts, so 9 months isn’t a crazy timeline (most of that is testing, they probably had the correct one for COVID within a month), especially for a pandemic being researched worldwide.

I wouldn’t be worried about a COVID vaccine, they’re really just swapping an antigen (much like they do to alter the flu vaccine every year) I would however be skeptical of any COVID medicine...that would need much longer to determine its safety for the public. Right now the masks, social distancing etc are to buy us time and slow down the spread until a vaccine to pick up the slack our herd immunity cannot do quickly enough. This is nothing new to our species.

But don’t take my word for it- I’m just a stranger on a Tacoma website. I carefully consider my sources for COVID information. Most of it is regurgitated from my brother and his wife (they’re both medical doctors and much more intelligent than me)

Teleconference doctor appointment is quite ridiculous. Aches and pains (example), how do they gather the information to treat or determine a correct source of treatment? I've had a dry unproductive cough for 15+ years from a side effect of medicine I take...
