I’m down to ride. We need to line up more trips. Hard to get a group to go and I’m not sure where else to look for people to ride.

FINE FALL WEATHER: We expect sunshine in full supply across Alabama today with a high in the 67-71 degree range this afternoon. Tonight will be clear and cool… most communities will dip into the 40-45 degree range by daybreak tomorrow. The day tomorrow will be dry, but clouds will increase late in the day… the high tomorrow afternoon will be in the mid 70s.

RAIN RETURNS: A dynamic weather system will bring rain into Alabama late tomorrow night, mostly after midnight. SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for Mobile and Baldwin counties, along with “marginal risk” (level 1/5) as far north as Thomasville, Evergreen, and Brewton.

A few storms over Southwest Alabama late tomorrow night could produce strong winds, and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. But, for most of Alabama the air will be stable and no severe storms are expected over the northern 2/3 of the state.

Thursday and Friday will be much cooler… temperatures Thursday over North/Central Alabama will hover in the low 60s all day, and on Friday most communities won’t get out of the 50s; it will feel more like winter. The sky will be cloudy both days, and periods of light rain are likely over the northern half of the state thanks to a deep upper low just to the northeast.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be a mostly sunny day for the southern counties of the state, but clouds will linger over North Alabama, and some lingering light rain is possible for areas north and east of Birmingham. The high will be in the low 60s over the northern half of the state, and close to 70 over South Alabama. Then, on Sunday, look for sunshine in full supply statewide with a high around 70 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front has potential to bring a little light rain to the state late Tuesday or Tuesday night, otherwise the week looks cool and dry with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A nor’easter is developing off the upper Atlantic coast; there is some chance it acquires sub-tropical characteristics over the next few days as it moves over the North Atlantic away from the U.S. Otherwise, the Atlantic basin is very quiet.

ON THIS DATE IN 1952: There have been thousands of weather reconnaissance and research flights into hurricanes in the Atlantic and Pacific since the mid-1940s. There have been several close calls, but only four flights have been lost. A B-29 Super-fortress flight into Super Typhoon Wilma 350 miles east of Leyte in the Philippines disappeared on this date. No trace was ever found of the plane or crew. In the last report, the flight was in the Super typhoon’s strongest winds, which were around 160 mph.

ON THIS DATE IN 1998: Hurricane Mitch, the second deadliest hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean, reached Category 5 strength on this day.

CHANGES AHEAD: Clouds will increase across Alabama later today ahead of a dynamic weather system that will bring rain back to the state late tonight. A few strong storms are likely over Southwest Alabama… SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for Mobile and Baldwin counties, and parts of Washington and Escambia counties, and a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) as far north and east as Sweetwater, Greenville, and Ozark.

Storms over Southwest Alabama late tonight will be capable of producing strong winds, and an isolated tornado or two. For the rest of Alabama, the air will be stable and no severe storms are expected.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Tomorrow will be cloudy and much cooler with periods of light rain. The day will also be windy; west winds will average 10-20 mph, with gusts to 25 mph. A wind advisory is in effect for most of the state. Temperatures will hover in the low 60s much of the day, and the wind will make it feel cooler. Then, on Friday, a deep upper low will develop just northeast of Alabama, and will bring a winter-like day to the state. Friday will be cloudy with some light rain and times, and temperatures will hold in the low to mid 50s… 20 degrees below average for late October.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND: Sunshine returns to South Alabama Saturday, but clouds will linger over the northern half of the state, with a chance of scattered light rain or drizzle mainly in areas north of Birmingham. The sky will clear Saturday night, and sunshine returns statewide Sunday. The high Saturday will be around 60 over North Alabama, and near 70 for the southern counties. Sunday’s high will be close to 70 statewide.

NEXT WEEK: The weather will be dry and pleasant for the first half of the week… new global model data suggests rain returns Thursday. Highs for the week will be mostly in the 60s, with lows in the 40s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A deep, non-tropical low pressure system with storm-force winds is located less than 100 miles east-southeast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The extratropical low is expected to meander off of the mid-Atlantic and northeastern U.S. coasts today, bringing rain and wind impacts to portions of those areas. Thereafter, the low is expected to move eastward away from the United States, and it could acquire some subtropical characteristics while it moves eastward or southeastward over the warmer waters of the central Atlantic through this weekend. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school games Friday, the sky will be cloudy with some light rain possible; temperatures will hover around 50 degrees at most stadiums.

    For the college games Saturday…

WEST ALABAMA AT NORTH GREENVILLE (11:00a CT kickoff at Tigerville, SC): The sky will be mostly cloudy with a few passing showers possible during the game; temperatures will be in the 58-62 degree range.

SAMFORD AT VMI (12:30p CT kickoff at Lexington, VA): Expect a cloudy sky with a chance of rain at times… temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS AT JACKSONVILLE STATE (1:00p CT kickoff at Burgess Snow Field): The sky will be mostly cloudy with a little light rain or drizzle possible; temperatures will be in the 55-59 degree range during the game.

BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN AT BERRY COLLEGE (3:00p CT kickoff at Mt. Berry, GA): A cloudy sky during the game with some light rain possible; temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s.

ARKANSAS STATE AT SOUTH ALABAMA (4:00p CT kickoff at Hancock Whitney Stadium): The sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling from near 68 at kickoff, into the 50s by the second half.

OLE MISS AT AUBURN (6:00p CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium): Mostly fair with temperatures falling from near 54 degrees at kickoff, into the upper 40s by the second half.

ON THIS DATE IN 2006: An F1 tornado (waterspout) came ashore and caused significant damage on the west side of Apalachicola Florida.

    Little breezy today

    From AlabamaWX

HANG ON TO YOUR HAT: As expected, it is a very windy morning across Alabama. Gradient winds (not related to thunderstorms) are gusting to 30/40 mph in spots, and a wind advisory remains in effect. The wind will die down later today as the gradient relaxes. Showers continue as a deep upper low evolves just northwest of Alabama this morning. A dry slot will likely bring a little sun later this morning, but clouds will wrap back into the state this afternoon. The day will be noticeably cooler with temperatures holding mostly in the low and mid 60s. The average high for Birmingham on October 28 is 71.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be even colder as the upper low just to the north bring dynamic cooling to the state. Temperatures will hover between 50 and 54 degrees most of the day over the northern half of the state, with low 60s over South Alabama. Clouds linger with some light rain or drizzle at times across the northern and central counties. It will feel more like January.

For Saturday, we expect a decent amount of sun for the southern half of the state, but clouds will linger over North Alabama with a little light rain or drizzle at times, especially in areas north and east of Birmingham. Once again, the high will be only in the mid 50s over the northern half of the state, with temperatures around 70 over South Alabama. Then, on Sunday, sunshine returns statewide with a high between 68 and 73.

NEXT WEEK: There could a little light rain Tuesday night with a cold front, and then again on Thursday as an upper trough approaches, but for now we aren’t expecting any really heavy rain or strong storms. Temperatures will remain below average… on most days highs will be in the 60s and lows in the 40s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A non-tropical low pressure system producing storm-force winds is located about 350 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Strong winds along portions of the northeastern United States coast are forecast to gradually diminish later today as the low moves eastward away from shore at about 15 mph. The low is then expected to turn southeastward toward slightly warmer waters in a few days, and it could acquire some subtropical characteristics over the weekend or early next week while over the central Atlantic. The rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.

WORLD SERIES: For World Series game 3 Friday night in Atlanta between the Braves and the Astros, the weather will be cloudy with occasional light rain or drizzle; temperatures will be in the low 50s. For game 4 Saturday night, the sky will be mostly cloudy with only a small risk of a shower, temperatures will be in the 48-52 degree range. Then, for game 5 Sunday night, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the low 60s into the 50s during the game.

ALABAMA STATE VS ALABAMA A&M (2:30p CT kickoff at Birmingham’s Legion Field): The sky will be mostly cloudy for the Magic City Classic with a touch of light rain or drizzle at times; temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s.

ON THIS DATE IN 1999: A Super Typhoon, known as Cyclone 05B reached the equivalent of the Category 5 hurricane on this day. This storm is the strongest tropical cyclone ever record in the North Indian Ocean. Cyclone 05B hit the Indian State of Odisha near the city of Bhubaneswar on October 29. An estimated 10,000 individuals would die from this cyclone, and 1.67 million people were left homeless

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for yours. I found a pretty long "trail" yesterday out in Chelsea that I proceeded down through mud/ruts so mine was filthy yesterday too before I got the pressure washer out to get the mud off the undercarriage.
