    Morning y’all

Have a few questions for y’all(in addition to the one I posted the other day):

    1. Those of you that have the URD LT headers installed; what did you do to minimize the additional heat the headers generate? Didn’t anticipate the extra heat they create and sitting on trails with the AC on, the factory cooling fan just doesn’t cut it, even with the oversized radiator. MASSIVE amounts of heat soak with these things. Everything in my coolant system is new, with the exception of the hoses (thermostat, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, etc…) I think my options are wrap the headers, ceramic coat them, and/or put louvers in the hood to allow air to come out? I’d even consider possibly putting my factory manifolds back on…

*EDIT - just realized these headers are ceramic coated from the manufacturer, so that removes that option… honestly don’t know if the performance gain of these is worth the additional impacts all the extra heat generated will have…hmmmmm…. Reinstalling factory manifolds would also probably mitigate issue #3…

    2. I’m considering a regear + a front locker. For those of y’all that are supercharged, regeared, heavy and offroad, how long did your rear end last after regearing? I’m on 35’s, fully armored, ~1000lbs in the bed. I’ve been apprehensive about regearing as it would make an already weak diff weaker (smaller pinion) and I’ve already gone through one diff (stupid line). When I talked to folks at ECGS, and I quote “a regeared diff in your setup will see a limited life on earth” lol. The route I want to go is a Dana 60 but $5.5k vs $700 (as far as ECGS goes). I know it’s largely dependent on driving style but just figured I’d see if they are blowing immediately or holding together for a while under a bit of abuse.

    3. My current exhaust setup has a ton of rasp from 2-3k RPM. I have the URD LT headers to a custom 3” setup from the headers back. I have a 3” vibrant ultra quiet resonator into a 3” RAM muffler. I don’t mind a little volume, although I’d like it to be as quiet as possible. Absolutely can’t stand the rasp though. I was thinking of swapping the muffler with a Walker quiet flow muffler but then have also had recommendations of adding a high flow cat or another resonator. Any suggestions?

    Pic of truck in question:

About the headers, have you tried installing a extra fan in the engine bay? Also try swapping to a sport hood to get some extra airflow actually opening up the vent on the scoop.

I’ve thought about it but idk how much that would help. As someone else pointed out, hard to evacuate air with bumpers/skids. Those alone kinda turn the engine bay into a oven…

I have thought about sport hood, I’m sure that would help. Hood spacers were also mentioned. I was thinking about hood louvers too but i don’t know, although it would work that seems excessive and not really the look I’m going for wither

Man sorry you having trouble, hopefully the solution can be had somewhere. Some of the smartest engine guys i know are in the 2tre performance thread. Might ask there even though your not a 2 tre they might have some good insite. Those guys build basically engines from the ground up lol.

You ever watch Taylor Ray on you tube? He is building a corvette into a comp drift car. He put a boat blower and ducting on each side of his engine bay to help evacuate hot air. Don't know if it really works yet as he just got it running but seems like it should work. Also wouldn't be too expensive if it didn't work. you can see one side in the pic.

Phil - How you liking the Rally?

I had a RF 300L and used the carrier for that bike.. I just sold the 300 a few weeks back for a larger bike, but the 300 was so much fun.

    Best,

    John

I was the one on the 300 FB page that asked if you were the overland tailor John

I'm loving the Rally. I have no need for a bike that can eat up tons of highway miles and this being a light "throw around" bike fit the bill. Plus, I love the look of it :D

Probably not heading camping until early Saturday. I can't leave at lunch and I'm not fighting Atlanta traffic on a Friday at rush hour. It'd be 11-12 midnight before we got there. What's the point in that. We'll probably just leave before sunrise on Saturday. The new job is way better but I gave up a month of vacation coming here. It's a lot harder to plan things especially when you have to pick and choose. Either way, I was miserable at my last place and I really like it here so oh well. Maybe in the future we can aquire more time off for time served.

It's worth giving up a few days if you're happier at the new job. Nothing is worse than being miserable.
