I think it has a street suspension too or something like that. Just wrapping up stuff at work before Turkey day.

People swap back and forth all the time. @Calamity_taco has a sweet ass Kawi(DRZ cough cough :D) he SM'd. A wheel swap, maybe chain(b/c of length) and front fender if you just wanted to is all you would need. The SM usually have a larger front rotor. I'd think grab a set of used wheels(rotors and all) slap those bitches on and 2 for 1 bike :D The suspension may be tuned differently, but for 95% of riders.....we won't notice.

Looks like a set of Kawi 21/18 wheels will just swap right over. I think I saw 250 from 09 on will even work.

What wheels are compatible with a 2022 KLX300SM? - Kawasaki Forums

I ordered the oem 18/21 wheels from the 2022 klx300 for my 300sm from rockymountainatv.com. It took almost 3 months to get them but I couldn't find any used wheels of the correct year for the front and I needed the correct rotors as well since there's no aftermarket ones.

If you go that route, the wheels come with the bearings and spacer tube installed. I wasn't sure so I ordered everything and now have spare parts.

It's a shame you didn't post earlier or read some of the other posts. You would have found virtually every 250/300 rear hub set would interchange from 1994-2022 and that any KLX250S/300S front hub would interchange. The rear hubs were also used on a lot of KX models. I think the only thing that changed over the years was at one point they went to a larger carrier bolt set and that simply required a rotor be drilled to suit with a power drill. I remember having to do that to fit a used KLX300 220mm rear rotor I mounted on my '09 KLX250. The only stopper in universal fit for the KLXs was when they went to an electronic speedometer. Otherwise all of them would fit.

You should be able to locate a correct front rotor in either size. The KLX650C ran a 300mm rotor if you found one of them, but I think you can find the correct size aftermarket if you look for the right thing. They likely won't have one listed for your bike yet, but any rotor from the 1993 KLX650 through the 1994 KLX250 on through the current 300 have the same bolt pattern and are totally interchangeable. It is just getting the right 300mm for your bike.

Your other option is to get the front caliper carrier from an S model 2009 or newer which will make a 250mm rotor fit your bike. Those rotors are easy to find. All of the KLX and some KX and KDX model rotors fit. I know, my bike has a salvage rotor on the front that was marked as a KX. They are easily found on ebay, often for less than $50. I picked one up for $20 figuring it was worth it in case my brother or I bent a rotor.

The carrier that mounts the caliper to the fork leg is the key to the change. The way the mount is usually sold is as a combination of the caliper and mount when looking used. The forks changed in 2009, so it may be that the earlier mounts won't work, I don't know for sure, never looked. At one time I had a KLX650C 300mm rotor and was going to mount it on my 250. I found a used carrier, but realized I didn't really need the stronger brake, the OEM was two fingers and able to make the front tire start to squeal so I didn't do the change. I sold off the rotor and hub set I had for a couple hundred. I would bet if you changed to the smaller rotor you could sell the large rotor and the carrier to pay for the caliper and rotor and money left over.

ye i got a klx400R (drz400s) so for the front brakes you can run the dirt rotor no problem thats what i did lol i do plan to upgrade the front and do the big brake kit but havent done it yet! the chain i didnt mess with actually it seems to have enough slack on dirt and street. some do change it but i made mine a bit short on the dirt side so its not on setting 0 its on setting 1 while on street its on 0.

not exactly what that bike has is inverted forks which is the norm and way better front fork setup over conventional. now most sm models (minus ktm and husky) will have shorter travel like the drz400sm, it has less travel then the drz400s and e models but you can still have the internals tuned to your weight and it will do just fine offroad and on road. my buddy has a drz400sm that he has made into more of a e model thats street legal and it works just fine offroad.

    21.jpg
pic of both his bike and mine both do great offroad just a tad heavier since they are dual sports

I think a 21 will be the oldest 300. It was the 230/250 before those. I'd imagine they're just like the Honda CRF230(carb'd)/250's. Still great little bikes and not too different from the 300's.

Check out DR650(air cooled) and DRZ400's(liquid cooled). Those are great bikes too and have been made for years with few changes.

Ah I see. I sat on a couple 250s while I was there and I could see those working out for me too. I’m not in the market to buy my last bike right now, just want to get on something for as cheap as possible that I won’t be to invested in.

If you ever want to see what these little bikes can do, check out Itchy Boots and Shonky. I'm sure you can find KLX's in the same boat

    Itchy Boots - YouTube

She's ridden her little 300 a shit ton and even did a season on a 250
