We are putting the yaks into Weiss lake this weekend to try and catch those money Crappie. Folks are turning in their $100 and $50 fish, but I’m after that $10,000 Crappie!

Fish & Game tagged some Crappie and released them into Weiss Lake. If you catch one with a tag, you go turn it in and see how much you won. It’s a way to bring folks to the area to generate money.

That's pretty cool. My best friend's in-laws have a place up their. It's a cool place. Do they tell how many they tagged? Do the tags determine the prize money or is it size?

I wonder if the tax payers paid for the "stocking" and will pay for the prize money while the town/businesses cash in on sales.

It’s the tag that determines the value of the fish. You won’t know until you turn it in. I’m assuming they have a number tagged on their tail. Crappie have to be 9” to keep in the state of Bama, unless it’s from Weiss Lake, which it has to be 10”.

Crappie are a little bigger, more slender, and different markings. Crappie are white or black, and Bream have all different colors and species. Both are good eating though!

Only reason I said that was my grandma always cooked them whole. She thought filet them was wasting good eating.
