Yes sir, supposed to be raining but nothing yet. I’ve been watching the direction of the wind socks and most are barely moving. How is it up your way?

A Tornado Watch is likely to be issued soon, according to the latest information from the National Weather Service. Here are the key details:

    • Validity: From 2253Z to 0200Z (time in UTC)
    • Probability of Watch Issuance: 95 percent

Thunderstorms are expected to increase in number through the evening, bringing a higher risk of tornadoes and damaging winds. Watch issuance is anticipated within the next few hours.

A warm and moist air mass with moderate instability is present across southern Mississippi and Alabama, with dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s. Radar observations indicate isolated showers and thunderstorms forming in this area. Models indicate the development of a strong southerly low-level jet by mid-evening, leading to northward transport of moisture and strengthening low-level winds. Forecast soundings suggest a rapid increase in hodographs (wind profiles) after dark, creating favorable conditions for supercells capable of producing tornadoes and damaging winds. A tornado watch will likely be issued for parts of this region as convective activity intensifies in the next few hours.

Stay updated with weather alerts and be prepared to take action if a Tornado Watch is issued for your area.

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 82 until 2 AM CDT Wednesday for 33 counties in central Alabama, including Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston. Stay weather aware and prepared for changing conditions. The Tornado Watch also includes Cullman, DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall counties in North Alabama.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of Alabama, effective Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 7:00 PM until 2:00 AM CDT. The primary threats include a few tornadoes likely with a couple of intense tornadoes possible, scattered damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph likely, and scattered large hail events up to 1.5 inches in diameter possible.

Summary: Storms, including supercells, are expected to intensify across the region this evening. Tornado potential will steadily increase after sunset as a low-level jet considerably strengthens.

Remember, a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Stay alert and prepared for threatening weather conditions. Listen for later statements and possible warnings.

Currently, there are rain and storms happening in parts of North and Central Alabama, but none of them are too concerning right now, and there are no severe weather warnings as we head into late night. However, according to the latest HRRR model, there’s still a lot of instability in the area, especially along and south of the I-20 corridor.

This model also suggests there’s a decent chance for tornadoes in these areas, along with plenty of wind shear and helicity, which are conditions that can lead to severe storms. The possibility of rotating updrafts, which can create tornadoes, is particularly noticeable from southern Shelby County to the Georgia state line near Heflin. The dewpoints, which indicate moisture in the air, are still high, feeding into the instability.

The good news is that the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has lifted the Tornado Watch for Greene, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties, and NWS Huntsville has removed Cullman County from the watch list.

Remember to stay informed about the weather until the threat passes your area. Also, be prepared for cooler temperatures and strong northwesterly winds on Wednesday.
