Welcome to the area! I grew up in Opelika and still work here. We live out in the county near Cusseta. There is a range out in the Tuskegee national forest but that place is kinda sketch. I haven't been there in a loooooonnnnng time. A buddy of mine has a range north of Opelika and we were planning to go last weekend just way to hot. I usually just shoot in my backyard. Might be able to work something out. What brings you to the area? Work, school? Hope you moved to a nice area of town

    Thanks!

I usually try to stay away from established ranges in NF/BLM for exactly that reason. We were planning on finding some place on Sunday but but had to find a new place to rent. I don't want to impose, but if you could point me to were I can find some where or info on laws etc I'd be grateful. School, my wife is getting a masters. We're moving to auburn, it's not the nicest area but my wife knows the former tenant and they say they haven't had problems.

Cool! You can find some laws here https://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-gun-laws/alabama/
As we speak they are trying to make your vehicle an extension of your home so you can carry a handgun without a CC permit in your truck. I think this should have been done a long friggin time ago. All the states that border Alabama allow it. It has passed the senate now it sits at the house of representatives for consideration. As far as places to shoot I'll have to do some research as I can step out my back door. @medic2230 might know of some places to shoot. So that makes 3 Taco's in the area that I know of now. We keep it up we might have enough to be able to have a meet in Auburn or Opelika haha
Also there is a place on Opelika Road/Pepperell Parkway called The Firing Pin. They might know of places. 3900 Pepperell Pkwy #103, Opelika, AL 36801

    Ask and ye shall receive.

This is a nice range and the owner lives on site so he knows it's taken care of. They have matches every month. If you're looking for nice as in paved walkways to your target then this isn't what you want. If so, then Fort Benning has a range like that but all weapons that you want to bring have to be registered on post. East Alabama has always had nice people out there that I've met and it is very clean. During the week you may be the only one there. It has key card access, archery range, 11 pistol ranges which has been expanded since I went last. 100 range and 300 yard ranges. They also have a 50 yard sight in range. I joined in January and it was just what I was looking for. They actually just had or are about to have their first 3 gun match. It's a NRA, USPSA, SASS, IDPA, 3GN affiliated range so you will have to be a NRA member to join. You can shoot from 9 a.m. to sunset 365 days a year.

Awesome thanks for the info guys! I'd be down for a meet up, hit up some trails or grab a beer.

Me too, I just hate all the junk mail they send you.

Hells yes to a cold one  I'm game for taking my Prerunner down some trails also.

All the emails should make it easy to renew haha! The junk mail does get a little ridiculous though.

I don't even read them anymore. I just sent them to the trash folder.

On another note, that was some hellacious lightning in that storm last night. Shit was popping so close you didn't even see the bolt just a flash. I was standing on the front porch smoking when it started, I was like HOLY SHIT THAT'S CLOSE! I saw one bolt pop 3 times in one area then the fire trucks went by on the road outside the subdivision.

    I just renewed
Yeah we got a lot of heavy rain with all that lightening also. Pop pop boom pour lasted for about 2 hours I guess. We were sitting on the front porch having a cold one when it started. We moved inside after it felt like lightening struck in the backyard. It didn't but man was it close. Didn't rain long enough though. Pond is still waaaaay low.

I'm down let me know when!

I've been waiting for a storm, back home we very rarely get thunder/lighting, LOVE IT! We were out at 8th rail, old town opelika? I was getting out of my truck and it light up right behind me and had an immediate boom, set off the railroad crossing. I went inside pretty quick.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
He just doesn't use it anymore and wants to knock out some debts.
