Alarm stickers in the windows: yes or no?

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by novataco, Jan 19, 2011.

?

Should I put the alarm mfg. stickers in the windows of the doors?

  1. Yes. Let them know you have a sophisticated alarm

  2. No. Keep them guessing. Fewer clues are better.

I just got an Avital 2-way alarm system installed (Avital/Viper/Python/Clifford are all essentially the same products with different packaging, all made by Directed Electronics, Inc.). Should I put the stickers in the window to let them know I have a good alarm system (and not a dummy blinking led), or keep them guessing?

I vote keep them guessing. It makes it easier for them if they know what they are dealing with, just my opinion though

I took mine off with the tint.. My car never even had an "alarm". Just the regular anti theft system. I doubt the tow truck cares if you have an alarm. I've seen several cars behind a tow truck sounding their alarms.

If you really want to deter the thieves then get your VIN etched on all of your windows. The side windows cost so much that replacing them to resale isnt pratical. My 2010 already had this done before I got it.

Two way alarms are a little more sophisticated than that. Someone busts into your vehicle while you are sleeping, they now have to deal with you.

Reminds me of my ADT sign out in the my yard and around my bedroom windows. If you were to be the bad guy, approaching a house with a ADT signs all over, would you think twice about trying to get in? At least an idiot wouldn't. According to my cousin's boyfriend, currently a peace officer said that homes with ADT or Brinks signs in front of their homes even if they don't currently have service is less likely to be broken into. To be honest with you, the sticker might look a bit funny, but if it helps keeping the thieves out, why not slap it on.

ADT et al were mandating the stickers and signs as part of the package. My neighbor tried to remove them.. They came back and said they were mandatory for the coverage.

I've got a fakey one came with some magazines and pepper spray I bought on line. Doesn't work, house got broken into.

Unfortunately, alarms are just a deterrent and damage to the truck has already occurred by by the time the alarm sounds. Thieves these days could care less if you have an alarm. We are now so numb when a car alarm goes off because it's so commonplace to hear them. In reality, witnesses are not going to stop a thief if it's not their vehicle. To answer your original question, I say no sticker and yes, I do have an alarm.:anonymous:

Next time I find a car thief I'll ask them. For now my sticker says: "Protected by .40 S&W."

A sticker also says "please break into my truck/car I have stuff worth stealing." Its like those morons who put the brand name of their brand new $500 radio or system on the outside, it screams "please steal my shit"

Speaking of alarm company stickers on houses . . a few years back some neighborhood wannabe-thug kids decided to break into houses in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday.

They broke into, and vandalized, 4 houses on my left and 2 houses on my right. Not mine. Mine was the only one with an alarm system (newish subdivision at the time) and I put the stickers on the windows and sliding door in the back.

Shortly after that most of them got alarm systems. I'm all for the house signs/stickers. Houses aren't left in different parking lots for hours and can't be towed away. Cars I'm not so sure about.

Have alarm on the truck and the house. Have VIN etched onto windows via a do-it-yourself kit which came with some sort of UV identification stickers. Addition of both did provide a discount on my auto insurance. House alarm provided discount on homeowners insurance as well.

Thinking about getting one of these signs for my yard but sadly I think my collection is smaller than both of my neighbors.
